Just wondering how many people actually know about this clog prone screen and how many gaskets have blown for lack of this knowledge? How much oil has been spilled into the environment because of it, and how much money has people spent on repairs because of the hidden screen tucked far,far away in a deep, deep dark hole? I can't even find any word on the screen in the Haynes manual. What's the deal here Ford? Anybody? Anyway, I thought I would remind everyone about this overlooked five dollar screen before it causes too much damage to your engine.

There is a small screen that gets clogged under the pcv valve and leads to, or causes major malfunctions with your 302 engine!! Some people already know about the little bastard but many people don't. I'd like to know how many people know or didn't know about the screen. I don't even think Ford knew about it.

Welcome to the category of "common knowledge since the late 90s".

Wait. What part is this? And where is it?
One place you wont find it is in the Haynes manual or any other manual that I know of, probably because the word on the street was out that the screen and its location was common knowledge and they didn't want to come off looking like fools for printing common knowledge stuff to a bunch of low life noobs like me. Anyway, the screen that everyone is so excited and happy to hear about is located in the back of the lower intake, hidden from view behind the upper intake in a dark deep hole under the rubber bushing that the pcv valve sits in. I pulled my pcv valve out, then used a mirror and flashlight to see the screen. To remove the screen I popped out he rubber bushing and used a sharp pointed 3" wood screw to screw into the screen, then use pliers to pull the screw and screen out together. The screen probably helps keep oil from entering the pcv valve and probably works good as long as its maintained, but a few people don't know about the screen and it gets clogged with oil and carbon, then gaskets start blowing to relieve crankcase pressure. OEM part number is E6ZZ-6A631-B/FA-1068

You should be a fiction writer.

Here's a post from *gasp* 10 years ago!

What part of my post is fiction? And why do you let a simple question have you gasping for air, is your screen clogged? lol. I understand the screen is old news to some but many noobs like me don't know about it so since you already know about it don't worry about it, my post is for the noobs like me just getting into Mustangs. If the screen is not brought to NOOBS attention NOW, by the time they find the 10 year old thread it might be too late and ruin their engine. So don't be offended because a noob or two got the help they needed. The screen was introduced in 1986. The thread you sent was in 2006. How many engines were destroyed within those 20 years when the screen was not common knowledge? And how is a 10 year old thread that is rarely read common knowledge? Common knowledge would be more like changing the oil on a regular basis.

I would surmise that the rubber grommet the PCV attaches to is probably cause for as many issues as a plugged screen is. The tend to try up and go hard as a rock over time allowing atmospheric air to get sucked past them. Great source for a vacuum leak.

I'm wondering if this clogged screen is the source of most 302 problems? Does anybody know what year they added the screen?

Thanks for this thread. I'm changing out my PCV valve this weekend, but now I need to track down one of these filters in addition to the valve and grommet.
I'm new to mustangs too and unfortunately don't noob all the little intricate pieces of 90s ingenuity which can fail and cause problems, yet.

Good riddance. Too much of a drama queen. Of course (s)he goes onto another Mustang forum and starts badmouthing mods thinking that the Mustang community is all separated. What a Dumas.....

Kinda too bad the other thread was taken down. Prime example of what not to do.
