Hello everyone, i need some help with some problems im having with my car. i was told that my car needed a tranny rebuild so i got that done, then the professional told me that the cause of the tranny failure was due to water leaking from my radiator into my tranny and rusting the inner parts. My radiator had to be switched, i got that done. The professional called me today telling me that now the car wont start and they believe its the fuel pump (gave out) Now i need to replace that. Im fixing that my self to save some cash, has anyone ever experience something like this? is what the professional telling me correct? em i being bamboozled ? NOTE the transmission shop is ATRA certified. PLease help!!!

I'd take it to a different shop going forward. Coolant in the transmission!? Ummmm....unless a heater hose is leaking I don't see it even being possible, and even if it was, how would it get into a sealed transmission and torque converter. You must be the one unlucky Mustang owner that had Dexcool installed from the factory. Perhaps they mean that the internals of the radiator gave out and the transmission cooler lines had coolant in them? Regardless...if you had both the trans and the radiator replaced, then this would be a non-issue. Drop the tank and replace the pump. Replacement pumps on LMR can be had for a little as $150. https://lmr.com/item/LRS-8350L/Replacement-Fuel-Pump-Mustang-130LPH-01-04

Best of Luck and stay away from that shop!

This is totally legit and can happen. I just got my 1996 Vert GT running again last week after the same thing happened to me. The trans fluid cooler is built into the radiator. That's why you have two hard lines running from your trans to the driver side of the radiator. I thought I had a blown head gasket because I was getting oil in my coolant (but had no coolant in the engine oil). Turns out the trans cooler and radiator had deteriorated and was mixing the coolant and trans fluid. Ruined my transmission and torque converter.

I installed a new radiator and bought a remanufactured transmission with a new torque converter. Just got it all finished and back on the road last week.
