The 68 Fastback Is Mine

Well last evening I got my new project. It had been in my friends possession since he was 16 years old and he is around 55 or 56. It is a base model that came from the factory as a seafoam green car with a 289 and automatic transmission the only thing I see added is an A/C and louvers with a respray 10 or more years ago. At once it appears to have had electric windows but they have been changed back to manual roll ups. He told me the last time he drove it was a year ago so when i got it the rear drum was frozen stuck. After a few mins of wrenching i removed the drum cover and freed up the stuck wheel. Well I did not want to run bad gas through the carb I drained the tank and replaced the fuel filter then primed. After maybe 4 turns of the motor, presto it was running on all cylinders. No smoke, I was floored. I checked and all gauges worked except the clock. Oil pressure great , Amps perfect, even gas gauge worked. The lights all were functioning except one of the blinkers in the hood. I even saw the compressor for the A/C work and blows fairly cool. Now I need to figure out how to start making it my own. Okay, so obviously I need to make some sort of plan for to restoration/ build of this car. Any thoughts or advice to point me in a good direction would be a help. I am not trying to make a drag or race car but a do want it to handle and be quick.
1st is the motor, it is a 289 and seems fine ( not smoking). I also have a 70 Ford SB F100 with a 302 so parts are somewhat swapable correct? 2nd the stock suspension is quite old and worn , I believe the passenger side needs a ball joint or tie rod.

347 stroker with 185 or 195 afr heads and roller cam and eddy air gap intake

3.73 gears

overdrive trans

520 front springs

7/8 or 15/16 front sway bar with urethane bushings

lower front around 2" from stock

135 lb reverse eye rear springs

roller bearing front spring perches

export brace

good shocks like adjustable konis or revalved bilsteins

That is correct. I cant see it but there should be a 2 just before that 79. They space it out a little. Any way that is a stock 2.79 ratio 8 inch rearend. Unless somebody changed the gears that is.

After putting my car up on a lift and also lifting the suspension on alignment lift. I have decided to work on the suspension. I have ordered Detroit locker's complete control arm with lower ball joints along with their upper ball joints. I decided to get a bushing kit for the strut rods and a set of end link bushings as well. The only thing I did not yet pull to trigger for is the roller bearing spring perches. Is this the time to go ahead and do that as well because it will be apart? Of course I will do an alignment, but should I replace to camber bolts while I am rebuilding or just use the stock ones?

Who makes the best roller bearing spring perches? I don't want to do this over and over again.

I ordered the roller spring perches from Daze. Fingers crossed, they looked nice. Now while I am doing this should i just go ahead and replace the coil springs they are 40 plus years old. On a side note I heard a LOUD explosion today, at first I thought someone fired a shotgun near me. Then I was convinced it was the new tankless hot water heater, but it turned out being my rear passenger tire that had dry rotted and then been overfilled. So now I need tires.

ta radials are the best looking tire but are low performance . if you dont need white letters, there are a few xlnt tires out there . look at goodyear for one . falcon has some also

I ordered BFG radial TAs from wally world but I'm having 2nd thoughts because the brakes are the most important put of a car my father used to say. If you cant stop then do not go. So disc brakes are a must and most good ones need at least a 17 inch rim. Correct? Damn that really changes the budget. Now I need 4 rims and tires as well as brakes. WHAT DO I DO?

Well I decided to keep the BFG radial TA 's and had them mounted and installed today at wallyworld (best price by $100 plus). I also ordered a front and rear disc brake conversion with brake booster that is compatible with my rims and a set of front and rear KYB gas shocks/ struts. So I am thinking that new spring coils, roller bearing spring perches shocks/struts and all new bushings as well as upper and lower ball joints with new control arms should make the car handle pretty nice after a proper alignment.
