3.27 Gear Worth It?

Drove a 93 gt hatchback with an aod today. 1 owner bone stock with almost the exact miles as mine. Noticed right away when i shifted into drive it seemed to want to go. Mine does not have that feel. As i was in work clothes i couldn't slide under it to check the axle code but i am assuming 3.27 gears. Maybe 3.08 but doubtful. It almost had the umf i want just lacked a little. So i believe 3.55 or even 3.73 will be fine. Wish i could find a stocker close by with those gear ratios and take it for a spin just to be sure.

So you are asking if it's worth it to swap to 3.27? Personally I'd just go to 3.73. That's what I had before I went turbo and it was perfect. Great acceleration and good highway manners. Mind you it's a five speed car though.

Negative. I am going to assume what I drove was a 3.27 car and it was lacking. Going to keep my eyes open for a complete axle with either 3.55 or 3.73. They are pretty rare around here so whatever pops up first.

3.55's or 73's are perfect for a stock 5.0 and for a slightly modified one(h/c/i etc). You'll really like either one. I've ran both and prefer the 3.73 but really there isn't a noticeable difference on the street. This I assume is a manual trans car. If it's an auto, then go with 3.73.

I'm sorry man, I clicked on this one and missed the first page altogether and am too braindead to realize I've already commented here, lol.

you must have at least a 3.73 gear in an AOD if you want any type of low end umpf- 4.10 if you don't do a lot of highway driving. Best bang for the buck. Know that you will most likely have to adjust your TV cable as the lower gear will make your AOD want to shift sooner. I would also highly recommend getting the biggest plate style trans cooler you can find and either a good shift kit or a SilverFox valve body.

Transmission is original with 133000 on it. I planned on minimally dropping the pan and changing the filte before saying it was road worthy. With this many miles is a shift kit a smart choice?

Contrary to popular belief a shift kit or valve body produce firmer shifts and less slippage- slippage creates heat and heat is the biggest killer of transmissions. Plus you have less wear on the cluches. Also, every auto transmission should have a cooler.

Shift kit suggestions? Vehicle is 100% stock minus the gears that will change.
