I just think that heads, cam and intake should be matched. One by itself doesn't do much, and can even hurt performance. But...

Cams shouldn't be selected by themselves. They need to be matched with the intake, heads, pistons, exhaust, rpm range, intended use and emissions...
Without a doubt, use the plasti-gauge.
Any real auto parts store should have it.
