Looks like the windshield washer pump test connector. They should have a grey plastic connector housing around them.
IIRC the depth is 2 1/8. Really shallow for a 6.5" speaker and last I looked there was a poor selection with those specs.
Per the Dorman site the 787-018 brass fitting is for 3/8" hose, but the threaded end is 1/8"MNPT
I've never used them, but two I've seen mentioned in the forums are:

There is a phenolic bushing that the ball of the shifter sits in. It's possible that the bushing could be worn or cracked....
