    Extremely Low Mpg...why???

Sorry I ran out of the initial topic, unfortunately here is where the whole thing took me. Now with this new issue I might have to put new rings and do all the bearings to freshen it up. Thank you all

    Extremely Low Mpg...why???

I just ran a compression test. I warmed up the engine for about 15 minutes, removed all the plugs, and unplugged the coil and fuel pump relay, and then proceeded with the test. The results are NOT good:bang: Compression test results: # 1.- 120 Dry # 1.- 148 Wet # 2.- 135 # 3.- 135 # 4.-...

    Extremely Low Mpg...why???

Well following chronology steps, there was a massive vacuum leak at the EGR valve. Thinking that that was the problem of my low vacuum which also contributes to low fuel economy, I removed the EGR valve and replaced the spacer with a thinner plate. Since my low vacuum problems persisted I went...

    Extremely Low Mpg...why???

Udate: Up and running and it seem to be doing the same, vacuum is 9 in and have a hunting idle. So I adjusted timing to 12* and speed up the idle to 850 - 900 rpm. I see about 12 in of vacuum. I did this with the IAC unplugged and at normal temperature, TPS is at 0.985 Volts. Disconnected the...

    Extremely Low Mpg...why???

you're right Noobz347, it better be a different animal or else! I've been reading articles left and right, I follow the things that make sense and ignore the ones that don't. I will allow the Ultra Black RTV to set before doing the final torque. Right now the silicon is already sandwiched and...

    Extremely Low Mpg...why???

Well I found answer to my inquire. Fel-Pro has an article that says, "No need to modify the 1250S3 gaskets to install the plugs, the gaskets will do the job and survive the crossover function" . I found out some interesting thing that obviously I'm guilty of. With the new set of 1250S3 gaskets I...

    Extremely Low Mpg...why???

Now, I have removed all the smog system long time ago, removed the rear crossover pipe from the heads and plugged the holes on the heads with a couple of setscrews, do hot air still coming out from the center of the head to the intakes? If so how to plug those holes? My lower intake gaskets have...

    Extremely Low Mpg...why???

You're right, guides are a must to avoid guessing the right position. Since I'm using ARP lower intake studs they are long enough to serve as guides. Right now I'm doing a thoroughly clean up on all the mating surfaces and have the lower with no sensors crossover and injector to clean it really...

Maaan those are excellent advices and suggestions, I'll follow them to the letter and see how it goes. Thanks a bunch!!!

    Extremely Low Mpg...why???

Here I'm thinking and writing while trying to make some sense: The sliding of the gaskets happens downwards so if a bad vacuum leak happens that would be at the top of the ports not by the lifters galley, but like I said I sprayed carb cleaner all around the lower intake and no leaks were found...

    Extremely Low Mpg...why???

I think some of the damage on the gasket s happened at disassembling I noticed a missing portions of printoseal on two ports but they were stuck on the manifold. I definitely see some shifting that happened while torquing the lower. That's one of the things I hate about those angled fasteners...

    Extremely Low Mpg...why???

Morning all! Well I just removed my lower and to my deception the gaskets seem to be intact and good seal around the ports. There is a normal light etching around the water ports but no indication of vacuum leaks as Far as I can observe. Here are photos of the gaskets, please share any...

    Extremely Low Mpg...why???

Thank you all for your suggestions: I have a TFS stage 1 cam. Although it could be a slipped lower intake gasket I ran very much all the tests cited on jrichker sharing and I was hesitant to remove the lower but I guess that will be thing to do. If there is a vacuum leak it will be at the...

    Extremely Low Mpg...why???

Thank you! My idle seems to be more stable with minimum surging. As for the high fuel consumption I installed an adjustable FPR and adjusted the fuel pressure from 39 psi to ~36 psi. I'm trying to compensate for the low vacuum numbers (~8 - 9 in) and its inability to regulate the pressure, one...

    Extremely Low Mpg...why???

Hi all, While troubleshooting my surging problem I removed the IAC valve, there are two round ports. My question is an unplugged valve supposed to be fully closed? That is no air thru the two ports, right? I have five darn valves and all of them are open. If I blow into one port is open to the...

    Extremely Low Mpg...why???

Update: I've been working on the two issues, extremely low mpg and idle surging. Idle surging I believe contributes to the first issue. On idle surging I reseted the Idle speed using three different methods with very little improvement. Ran KOEO and shows and everything is OK, codes 11-10-11...

    Extremely Low Mpg...why???

By the way, my vacuum readings went to ~ 12 in maybe due to eliminating the EGR leak plus the 2 degree advance of my timing. Right now I'm re doing my base idle to see if I do it right this time and get rid of errors 12 and 13. :)

    Extremely Low Mpg...why???

Update: I set up the base idle speed with IAC disconnected and TPS to 0.99 Volt. Adjusted the timing to 12 degree and disconnected the battery for like 30 min, then connected the IAC. I then connected the battery and pull the codes. There was code 31 so I took her for a short ride for warm up...

Oh OK, I will leave the charcoal canister alone. I will do that and confirm code 33 is there and see what happens. Thanks man!!! :nice::nice::nice:
