    96 cobra stalling out

    Check the IMRC's cause my car would stall as well and I found that the IMRC's were stuck open/closed. If the check engine came on, get the code read. Also go do a fuel tune as well. When I did that it fixed my stalling problem too.

    There will be a code that gets thrown...Its P1390 or something like that. It will also throw your O2 Sensor codes as well. The code will state - "IMRC Stuck Open/Closed"...then it will throw - "O2 sensor registering lean", "O2 sensor registering rich", and it will show that the back O2 sensors...

    ok, what fuel were running before you put 100 oct in the car and your cat is most definitley going out so if you get the sulphuric smell then your cat is melting or as you posted over heating to the point of melting...back to the pinging, if you are running anything under 92 oct then youll ping...

    How advanced is your timing? I dont think an exhause system would do that though...When I was running my 89 5.0, I advanced the timing by 4 degrees and the engine would ping when I ran regular fuel...when I put high octane fuel in my car the pinging went away...Ill talk to my mechanic back home...

    my only issue though is where to find it...the chilton book says that its in the intake manifold, obviously, but the picture the book shows is that the module looks like a little plug that all you need to do is pull the intake cover off and replace the chip...im not to knowledgeable with the 4.6...
