    Custom Camshaft

I have an Ed Curtis FTI custom cam in my '66 tripower 289 and my '93 "Pure Street" 308. His cams are usually more conservative in their specs then other guys, but they make more power. He doesn't focus on peak numbers, but looks for more "power under the curve" as they say. If you are a racer...

    At a loss!

I don't think it is a vacuum leak since you said it pulls good vacuum at idle. There really is no vacuum in the intake once the throttle plate if open on the carburetor. Don't confuse air flow with vacuum as they are not the same. Sounds more like a vacuum advance problem, meaning you aren;t...

Odd fix for backfiring through the carb

Back firing through the carb often means that the timing is too far advanced. Back firing in the muffler can mean the timing is far retarded. Also, check your firing order and the condition of your wires. In the dark of the night run your car with the hood up and with a spray bottle, mist warm...

Shorty header V ported cast manifold

I have a Flowmaster 2.25" kit with custom bandrell bent h-pipe. The 2.50" setup will give you more options purchasing x-pipe kits as many companies do not go smaller then 2.50". My Doug's headers also came with 2.50" collectors, so that would have been a better transition had I gone with a...

    anyone use this

If you are concerned about splitting a block, you are better to purchase an aftermarket Sportsman or the new Boss block. Installing these brackets would require installation before honing your cylinders as they would distort your block when torqued down. I think most performance engine machine...

Threads Popped Out Of The Block; YIKES!!

See if you can get an ARP stud kit that has longer threaded studs. People have the same problem when going to studs for the cylinder heads. Too short a threaded stud with pull the threads out.

    Door Shells???

I purchased a door from Dynacorn a couple of years ago. My original door was rust free, but had been damaged years before and was full of drill holes from a slide hammer. The door skin on the Dynacorn door was a bit wavey and the door skin would have had to have been replaced to get the door to...

    289 Belt Size

I have my 289 on the stand and it is ready to go in this weekend. I would like to have everything ready and would like to know the sizes for the alternator belt and power steering belt. This motor does not have AC or a smog pump. Any info would be great. I may end up measuring, but if there is...

    Handling Woes

Have you installed a bump steer kit? Your car is very low in the front and this could cause darting around if the tie rod geometry is off. Best bet is to take the car to a good front end specialist who can check everything out. You do have a front stabilizer bar installed don't you?

Learning from a mistake (cam install)...

Get the factory shop manual and check out Crane and Comp Cams website for tips. Modern oils are missing the lubricants needed to break in cams. Many new cam lobes are being wiped out because of this. Use Rotella-T oil and add one quart extra over the recommended amount for extra splash during...
