    yea the idle air control valve may not be bad but it may be going bad. i encoutered that problem with my car when i first bought it. if its only done it once i wouldnt worry about it until the problem starts to happen more often.

    hey ken welcome to stangnet. the small miss could be the spark plugs have you changed them. they may be causing the slow start as well. the gas smell may be due to a leak and the rough idle could be becuase of a bad EGR valve.

    also you can try loosening one of the coolant temp sensors on the manifold to make sure the pockets are gone. if they are still there you should see bubbles.
