HV pumps are for loose motors with large capacity pans

Check the connections. I would guess that the large wire is not carrying the load so the small wire is. Replace and or clean all ground connections.

Did you use the corect pressure plate bolts?

I put a tilt colum in a 93 and did away with the air bag. It did not have cruise so that did not matter. I also put an after market steering wheel while I was at it. Air bag won't work with tilt
