    should i up my gear ratio

    Go with the 3.55's. It's a good gear for your combination and will still make it drivable on the highway. I've had mine for 10 years now and am still happy with the performance.

    What approach for a new engine?

    +1 This would definitely be the cheapest route. One suggestion though is if I was going this route, I would go with a 408 stroker. Ford Stroker Kits from RPM Machines.

    Fuel Pump Mounting

    My pump is bolted above the rearend. The bolt heads can be seen on the top in the trunk area. And yes I ran a relay.
