    Not-So-Simple VIN Number question...

The last 8 digits of the VIN are stamped on tags that can only be seen when the fenders are removed completely on the tops of the rails. That would be a sure validation of the correct VIN.

    Rack and Pinion question

Try getting that bolt out. Use lots of penetrating oils and an impact gun if you have to. If you do end up cutting it, take the good one to your local hardware store and have them match up a new one.

    cold weather"no start"problem..below 20 degrees

I'm going to say that your new ignition control module is bad. If it's an inexpensive aftermarket one, they are prone to failure. See if you can get another known good one, even if it's used and try it. When cranking the engine, have a spark plug wire off to ensure you have spark (and it's not...

    91 Hatch Code 538

According to my books, code 538 is from the computer not seeing an rpm change during the key on, engine running test. If you got this code while running the KOER test, did you yank the throttle when the test prompted you to? If not, re-run the test and when you get 1 flash (or needle sweep if...

    sunroof seal

CJ Pony Parts in Harrisburg, PA has the seals. I am going to get a set for my Capri as they are cracked and leaking. They have both seals- the one that fits to the roof panel and the one that fits to the metal strip on the glass. Replacing both of them will make a large difference. If the...

    Paint question

I sell PPG paints and can tell you that PPG will not warranty that paint job if you do that. There is also a risk of peeling because they are 2 different company's products. There is no tech info available through PPG to say if it would work or not.

    carburetor adjustments

The best advice I can give you is order Haynes Weber Carburetor manual and use the instructions pertaining to the 32/36 DFV or 32/36 DFAV. The other thing you could do is pop on EBay and buy some Ford shop manuals for your car. They would detail the carburetor well.

    Still Won't Start.... Now What?

There are quite a few things that you would have to remove or set aside when you do your valvecover gasket on your car. Some things to re-check: Be sure you have no intake/vacuum leaks. This is an easy thing to overlook. Be sure that you did not leave a vacuum line unplugged or accidentally...

    Mustang paint job

Stop by your local PPG paint store and look through the old chip books from the 80's. You should be able to find something you like.

    2.3 n/a Horsepower?

Really hard to say, but if it all works properly, maybe 120-140hp. Don't expect to be unseating the beads of your rear tires when you punch the gas, 'cus that's not going to happen. However, it will be more fun to drive for sure!

    Weber carb for a N/A 86???

Did this on my 86 2.3L 2 years ago. VERY easy to do. All you need to do is go to the junkyard and find ANY 74-82 2.3L. Remove the EGR plate that the carb sits on along with the carb, throttle cable and bracket. Also take the distributor as you will not be able to use your tfi distributor...

    cruise control HELP ASAP!

Your cruise control servo is vacuum operated. Follow your cruise cable carefully and you will find that it doesn't go through the firewall. It goes around the back of the strut tower and then behind the fender apron. A vacuum line and wiring harness also go back there. Your cruise control servo...

    1980 mustang instrument cluster

Wiring diagrams for cars of the 79-86 era are really only available in the old Ford EVTM (Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual) books. They can be had off EBay occasionally. Your best bet is to go on over to Welcome to FourEyedPride.com and post up over there about it. I am a member over...

    iac and gasket question

I've reused my old gasket quite a few times. As long as there are no tears on it and it's not brittle, you can reuse it. I like to use a little bit of gasket adhesive or some vaseline though.

    auto trans questions...

I have been researching this for my 86 Capri, which has the C3. I have found that it would be MUCH easier to just put a 5 speed in and be done with it. The largest hang up with the whole process is that the A4LD has a locking torque converter that is controlled by the computer as to when it...

What kind of rims are these and what kind of material are they.

Only good thing the polycast wheels are good for is resisting being cracked when hitting a curb accidentally. My 86 Capri had them from the factory. I put 16" turbocoupe "snowflake" wheels on it and it made a MASSIVE difference. Cost me a whopping 100 bucks for the wheels. The tires were free!

What should my next modification be?

Go to a junkyard and get a roller camshaft out of an 89-97 Ranger or 91-93 Mustang.

    instrument cluster failure

I don't have any photos. The best way to describe them is little rectangular things on the wires. Parts stores usually have them in the electrical section so stop by and take a look at them so you know what you're looking for.

    instrument cluster failure

You may have melted a fusible link. Look around your starter solenoid. You'll see a bunch of them there. Look for one that is melted or looks like it heated up. If you find one, you can cut it out and replace it with a new one (can be bought at any parts store). Not all the fusible links are...
