Replaced Alternator / Volts still to Low......

Something to think about is that even if you upgrade the alternator, it will still have a RPM threshold at which they cannot produce sufficient charging voltage. Even though you have a higher output alternator, it's threshold RPM is probably similar to the stock one. Lose the Underdrive...

    Detroit Truetrac and FRPP Axles..

Alright guys, as some may remember, I tried to use an Exploder 31 spline carrier with my 31spline FRPP axles and ran into problems with the width of the carrier causing the axles too be too long for the setup. I have verififed I do in fact have the correct length axles for the 92 mustang...

Help with Rear end, 31 Spl explorer carrier, FRPP axles ??

I'll get some pics tomorrow. Imagine this, though for now. I put in the new clutch pack, slightly thicker than the original worn out one. Put the side gears in, then i slide the axle in. Now the axles will go in so far, that they bottom the ends of the splines on the sidegears and...

Help with Rear end, 31 Spl explorer carrier, FRPP axles ??

The axles are Part number M 4235 B Ford Racing Performance Parts [M-4235-B*] Heavy-duty 31-spline axle shaft (29.16" long) for applications using 31-spline differentials. I measured them roughly about 29 and a 1/4 long. Any ideas where i could be going wrong? Basically with a ~.625"...

Help with Rear end, 31 Spl explorer carrier, FRPP axles ??

Hey Guys, I put together an 8.8 from a 92 stang. Consisted of the 92 housing, FRPP 31 spline axles, and a 31 spline Trac-loc carrier from an explorer (early 90s). Is there anyway for this combo to work. It all fits together but the exploder carrier is wider, the axles stick in quite far...

Help please.. 5.0L Missing under load, pics inside...

Well I fixed the problem. I changed the fuel filter, checked fuel pressure. Went to check timing to make sure it was alright, and i noticed the #1 plug arcing. Even though i had all the plugs out at least twice, i never saw it before. Hairline crack. Anyways, new plug and she was good...

Help please.. 5.0L Missing under load, pics inside...

Hmm, thanks for the input. I will check the reistsance of the wires one by one tomorrow. They are a decent quality wires though, and worked fine up till now. Also, one reason i don't suspect ignition problems is because none of the plugs are fouled (misfiring due to lack or spark). I will...

Help please.. 5.0L Missing under load, pics inside...

Hey Guys, Car is an 87 5.0L GT. Stock motor other than exhaust. 190kms on it, ran great up till now. A description of what the car is doing would be missing badly from what sounds like 1 cylinder only ( continuous miss under throttle, rhythmic, not scattered). Pulled codes, just...

    High rpms at shift

Mine does that sometimes a little when cold. When accelerating easy and shifting the rpms will hang a little in between gears but never more than 1600rpm Kind of sounds like it could be TPS related. I know mine does't throw any tps codes so i figured it was normal.

    351m in a 79

Wrong. The 351M and 400 were developed to meet tighter emissions standards and still provide ample torque for ford's larger cars. The M didn't replace the FE blocks in the F-series trucks until the mid 70s. I think it's a cool swap. Everybody bad talks the 351s and 400s because they...

    Speed density nerds only please!

From what I've read, the SD's adaptive limit is about 12-15% max. But that being said, the ECU ignores O2 readings at WFO, it runs open loop which uses known stored values. However, the values it refers to for open loop operation are modified by the learning strategy during closed loop...

Does anyone have this problem besides me

I've had bad u-joints before which appeared to have no slop with the car up on jacks. Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it's not there. U joints are cheap, and if he hasn't replaced them within the last couple years, he should anyways. .002" on each u joint plus the backlash in the...

Does anyone have this problem besides me

Sounds like driveline slop to me. Your U joints are probably completely worn out. Change the u joints and see how it feels then.

    Chrome Moly vs. Mild Steel

I wouldn't go soild stock. Tubing has a larger bending moment for a given amount of material than a solid piece. Solid would be quite heavy. Just take a look at what the aftermarket company's are using. If the suspension is setup properly most of the loading should be tension and...

    Chrome Moly vs. Mild Steel

The way i see it is Chromoly has a much higher UTS and USS. THerefore you can use less material when constructed from chromoly. Or if both piece are the same dimensions, the Chromoly will be much stronger than the MS. Id say a properly designed set constructed of mild steel would be fine...

    1/4 mile times

My car is all stock and it ran a 14.7, this was my first time racing ever. Once the track got sticky, even on street tires i bet i could have dropped my 60ft and ET by launching a little harder. A 88 SD car should be a hair quicker than it's 89 MAF counterpart.
