Dissapointing Results - Have I Missed Something?

The carb is fine for that cam. The comp guy was dead on given the cam selection. Now if you go big on the cam and higher on the RPM then the carb is limiting but not by much. The hP exhaust manifolds are every bit as good as shorty headers. I've been there and done that. Buy the bigger...

Dissapointing Results - Have I Missed Something?

I think you are getting good performance from what you have. That's a very nice street combo. If you want more power given what you have, it's all in the cam. Change that to something bigger and it will wake up nicely. But you will give up some bottom end and drivability. That's a concern...

    1966 Mustang Convertible Restoration

Roughly what does it cost to get a restoration on a car like this? Just the body work and paint.

Made my own T5 shift stick

You should consider a move to the frozen north. In MN shops are all asking me for tool makers and machinists. Good talented people are getting top dollar. I meet a owner the other day and he said he is paying as much as six figures for top guys

    New Rear Gears, Whine

I changed rear gears on my 8" to 3:25. All new everything in the carrier. Set up according to Ford manual. Back lash is good and bearing pre load set on side bearings and pinion with new crush sleeve. Pattern looked good. Now the rear whines on the drive side at 50 mph. Coast side is...

    Engine What Cam? 289

I did try a different coil with no change. I will try the wires next. It seems to me that because all the carbs tried seem to have the same issue to a lesser degree. It is most likely somewhere in the ignition that is amplified by something out of whack in the carb. The only thing in the...

    Engine What Cam? 289

One more comment on the new problem, I did put in new plugs gapped at .04. Could the gap be the problem? What do others do for a plug gap with ingnitor I ignition?

    Engine What Cam? 289

OK, I'm resurrecting this old post with an update. Over the long winter I switched to the Blue Thunder (copy of the ford cobra manifold) intake and a new Quick Fuel 600 dp carb. I also added a Petronics III cast distributor. I wanted to eliminate the stock distributor as a possible problem...

    Tires For A 66

Depends on the back spacing of the wheel but I did 215/60/15 on 15 x 7 rims. They fill the wheel well just about perfect and no rubbing issues. If you want o go bigger try 17 x 8 rims with 4.75 BS then 235/45/17 tires fit perfect with no rubbing. That's about max without body or suspension mods.

    C4 value

By the way a T10 and a top loader are two different transmissions. T10 is a side load Borg Warner and a Top Loader is a FoMoCo. Shelby used the T10 for less weight as it has an aluminum case. The top loader is much stronger and a better tranny. Sad story, I had a close ratio toploader that...

Brakes 66 mustang disk brake conversion

I just got a MC for a 70 mustang disc/drum. Bolts right up and works great. You will still need a proportioning valve. You plum it in just like a line lock in the rear brake line. They run about $40 bucks. You can use your current mc but as Dennis112 mentioned, you will have to remove any...

    408 stroker build?

@ Dennis112 The 8 point cage and frame connectors make a huge differance. That thing looks straight as an arrow. 4 speed and all! Looks like it would be a ton of fun to race. Do you bracket race it? If so how well do you do against the automatic cars? We have a guy around here with a 65...

    Best Exhaust Set-Up? 1966 w/302

If you want a good quality set up and still save some money. There is a manufacture here in MN that makes all the private lable systems for Summit. The company is called Hearthrob exhaust. They have nice kits USA made. I have been there and the quality is high end but the price is not. Get...

    408 stroker build?

I was just at Hendricks Motor sports and got the behind the scenes shop tour. ( I sell Haas equipment and Hendrick supplies Stewart Haas racing with motors). A full on NASCAR engine goes out the door at $80,000. I heard that from the man first hand. They are designed to last 500 miles between...

    408 stroker build?

That is a tall order as I think of it. About the best 347 if ever heard of made 520 HP on pump gas and it had very hairy street manors. If you do the math on that it would come out about 611 HP for a 408 but not very streetable. I would aim for around 525 HP and have a very fast car that is...

    408 stroker build?

I have a pro built HP 750 used only for dyno tuning. Proved slightly to big for my 347. It made 470 HP. I would think it would be perfect for a 408 with some street manors. That would be my first choice on a build like yours. Bigger if track only use but not if you ever want to stree the...

    Not quiet, but quietER exhaust

If you like the flowmasters then just get 50 series. I had a set on a 347 solid lifter, bla, bla motor and loved the sound. Quiet to cruise without drone but nice when you get after it.

    True Factory Gt

By 66 most of the weird stuff about the GTs were worked out. I have a very early 3/26 build 65. The GT wasn't released to the public until 4/16/65 It has the fog light switch located in the D shaped hole that all Mustangs have on the bottom of the dash frame to the left. This was normal...

What oil to use 68 rebuilt 289?

They are all conventional. Synthetic works fine also but harder to find with the zinc. I think Joe Gibbs has the zinc. The problem most often found with synthetic in the old engine's is it seems to be leak prone. The two piece rear main is a pain to get sealed and synthetic just seems to...
