    If you really want to run a carb use a distributor for a 1985 mustang gt..it has the correct steel gear for use with a roller cam. Don't get the one used on the 85 mustang gt with auto trans with CFI..use the one for the 85 gt with 5 speed with a carb.

    It sounds like a bad ECT sensor or PIP sensor..but as always check the codes. Also sometimes you will not get a code for a bad ECT even if it's bad.

    Well 210 degrees is a normal temp for summer..and the white smoke from the engine could be a coolant leak that sprayed on something hot like the header causing the smoke. Also do you have a pic of the motor because later model mustang did not come with a carb and you could have the wrong...

    If it does not turn over with a new battery make sure the battery post is tight also it could be the starter relay or ignition switch or starter or bad /loose wiring.

    You can check the codes but sometimes a bad ECT sensor will not set a code. I don't know if that's your problem but it was my problem just last week.

    Sounds like a bad ECT sensor since that sensor plays a role in fuel and spark timing and transmission shift points. Do you have the same problem when the engine is cold? or does it happen when it warms up?

    The only thing i can think of is the pip sensor/distributor that would cause the problem because it has to with the spark and fuel pump operation.

    It could be the engine coolant temp sensor if the problem happens when the engine is at normal temp. I just replaced mine today because my car started stalling when the temp got up to about 190 degrees.

    I think that the stock gauge is your real problem ..wiring at the alternator/voltage regulator will affect stock gauges.

    What temp are you running? plus what fan are you running? from 180-210 is normal on a 80-90 degree day outside.

    Yes that's the problem if it start back up after sitting a while...you can just replace the whole distributor/tfi module. You can get the distributor that comes with the tfi module.

    Have you ever replaced the tfi module or the distributor? because if the fuel pump does not prime and you have no spark that's usually the problem.

    What 5.0 engine are you running? Is it a mustang 5.0 HO engine?or a crown vic 5.0 enigine? I ask because why not use a water pump for a mustang 5.0 engine..the mustang pumps turn counter clockwise not standard.

    Have you checked the inner and outer tie rods because if they are bad they will make your car handle real bad and will cause the car to wonder. I just replaced mine last month..i did the inner and outer and they are very easy to replace .. all you need is a large pipe wrench.
