    Timing belt installation question

d'oh.... gotta love the belt snapping. Nice thing is it's a non-interference motor! What 91 said. big bolt in the middle of the balancer - get the bolt off. Impact is your best friend, but if you don't have access to air, you can thread in 2 semi long bolts into the pulley bolt...

    1991 waterpump issues

    High NOx(smog help)

As for the timing. not sure. I know that 89 is still a distributor and 91 was distributorless, not sure what 90's got. I know the distributorless ones was all computer controlled, timing wise.

    High NOx(smog help)

I hear ya on the "legal" part, but in fairness the test is skewed because you are now more than likely not burning the fuel that was originally designed for the engine....ever since they put ethanol in the fuel i am fairly certain they didn't adjust the emission standard for older vehicles that...

    High NOx(smog help)

Dump some acetone in the gas tank - about 15 ounces - from what i understand it mixes with the gas and allows it to burn more complete reducing emissions significantly. Dump some in and drive it around a bit to get it good and mixed and in the fuel before you test. last time we had...

Sizing the T5 input shaft questions

very interesting information. I would imagine the machining you have done to the input shaft will be fine since it clears the pilot bearing. Don't know if you have done it, but if you plan on boosting a significant amount, an 8.8 rear might be a good idea. Not too much work to put it in...

    Real dis explanation

It appears from what I am reading, your car is wired correctly as far as one pack to one side of the engine. It is common after time for the coil packs to have one or more go bad. If one coil pack is 100% fine and the other has one or two coils go bad, you wont notice a misfire. If you have...

    Real dis explanation

Each coil pack is a seperate system. I believe the front coil pack is the primary coil pack and fires 1st and the coil pack behind it is the secondary coil pack and fires almost immdiately after the 1st. Think of each coil pack as a stand alone distributor. Each of the coils on the front...

92 2.3L vert tach & water temp gauge issues

Not quite sure what you are saying, but I assume that you moved the plug wires tht were originally on the front coil pack and going to drivers side engine to the back coil and back coil wires to the front? I know that the DIS fires one coil and then the other right behind it, maybe switching...

    1992 LX Build thread!

Does the fan come on when a/c is turned on? I switch mine manually now... got tired of dealing with it....mounted a relay system and a button near my shifter. OBTW: British Racing Green looks pretty good on a mustang...

    Oiling Question

Yep - what David said. I would stay away from that if you are running a stock type engine for daily use. Been told that Restricting oil to the top is fine on racing motor because the RPMs are usually on the high end and you have alot of higher constant pressure going to the head versus...

    Upgrade DIS, rear axles?

I have found that the 2.3 engine I have (1993) gets it's best vacuum under load at around 2500 RPM - so depending upon how fast you like to run on the highway and tire height depends upon the rear gear you are looking for. I do know that the 8.8 I have has the 2.71 gear in the rear and it is...

    Upgrade DIS, rear axles?

yeah, most people don't. when i was researching the swap, not one person mentioned doing that, even when converting to the 5.0 they say you have to replace the brake line. to me, it's much easier and less hassle to swap over the 2.3 axle lines and be done with it. I know that a 5.0 conversion...

    Upgrade DIS, rear axles?

I have bolted in a 5.0 8.8 Axle in with very little problems. An 8.8 from any Fox will go in, a few things might be a problem. 1. If your 2.3 is an automatic, I'm told you will have a driveshaft issue. Not sure how to deal with it, If it is a 5 speed, there is no driveshaft issue...

    89 Mustang eats clutch cables

never had my long cable break. where is it breaking? at the pedal, trans or somewhere inbetween?

    89 Mustang eats clutch cables

which cable? the long one or the dog bone one on the transmission? If it's the short one, they are known to break all the time. I "fixed" mine by eliminating the dog bone with a nut, bolt and a few washers. makes adjusting the clutch easy

    1992 LX Build thread!

next thing to look at on the cable is something that usually happens to old Mopars...but possible on yours.... lots of times the old school Dodges cable routes near the exhaust - and sometimes a cable isn;t secured and lies on the pipe - gets hot and melts the cable or during a engine / trans...

    91 mustang lx

Yes - any 94 to 99 Mustang alternator will be the 130 amp 3G. However, there are 100 amp versions of the 3G and they are easy to recognize in the yard. The 130 amp versions and the 100 all have small holes drilled into the front face for breathing. Pay attention to the front face and look...
