i have determined that it is the throwout bearing. although a guide on replacing the TOB would be helpful, as well as costs if i do it myself vs. a transmission shop.

found the problem. i was missing a fuse facepalm* it must have fallen out when i was replacing the woofer fuse. Thanks for the help though' -jer

well i took the cheap route and replaced the whole switch... but still to no avail :(

maybe its different on the '01 but my 99 has rear brake drums, not rotors
