I thought about flipping them but the wide part of the quad shock will be right against the main rear shock. how troublesome will wheelhop be?

I have an 88 LX (former state trooper car). I bought new 17" rims, 10" wide which rub the rear axle dampers. can the dampers be removed and discarded or are they important to keep? thanks!!

I looked in the door panel first and only found wires to the speaker. the speaker wires were the only wires going from the body through a rubber seal into the door. I took off the inside right kick panel (where the computer is) and looked all around and behind the glove box and can find no wire...
