    PCV oil under carb spacer

Pulled the carb from the 289 because of an idle issue. Lots of oil under the spacer and leaking from pic hose. Compression checks great on about 40k miles. Not much of a baffle in the stock valve cover? Pcv valve seems to rattle fine. Plugs look great. Solutions?

    Stock 289 exhaust kits

I want to convert a 66 289 from single to dual keeping stock cast manifolds and no thru the valance exit. Looking for a kit with all the parts required to hang it in there. Soooo many various options from the aftermarket out there. Who does it right?

    289 improvement ideas

What I have: 289 C code with about 40k on a stock rebuild that was bored .030 over. What I'm thinking about doing: Basically a 4V carb and dual exhaust keeping the stock appearance, heads and exhaust manifolds. Possibly add headers, but doubt the heads will flow to make it worthwhile. Worth...

    Forensic Help On C4 289 1966

Found at the bottom of the bellhousing behind the inspection plate. Only recent work was a starter a few hundred miles ago. The clatter was sudden on a corner then intermittent as the shrapnel floated around. A lot of battered converter nuts and gear teeth. Otherwise all seems well. So what was...

Converting Single To Dual Exhaust Oem Style Options?

Currently have stock manifolds into single exhaust on a 66 289 Fastback. Looking to convert to dual with stock style components, but not GT style through the valance. Who sells a decent kit with everything needed? And is there anything needed to convert that the kits don't provide? Also...

Do ignition systems really do anything?

Opinions... Is there any real benefit to adding an MSD or smiliar ignition module to your stock type V8 engine? Performance? MPG? Do they help with pre ignition "pinging"

    Alignment drift?

Any ideas why the alignment keeps going out on my 66 Fastback? Namely the toe adjustment? Details: V8 car, manual steering, all new suspension parts, less than 15k miles, still check out tight and good condition. Maverick spindles and disk brakes. No nasty potholes or curb whacks by the driver...

    Alignment drift

I've got a few thousand miles on a completely new stock front suspension in a 66 Fastback. It has new tires and was aligned at a reputable shop. I've recently noticed the camber is shifted to the negative on both wheels and is wearing the edges of the tires. Any ideas what could cause this...

    So now what?!

If it's not one thing it's another since I put this car on the road. Now my oil pressure gauge is spiking off the scale when it starts up for awhile. And yes the instrument voltage regulator is new as well as the sending unit. Do 289's have an internal bypass on the oil pump that could be...

    Head gaskets installed wrong?

    Reading the spark plugs

So I've been fooling around with ignition stuff in search of a smoother idle. I upgraded the wires to 8mm and added an Pertronix Flamethrower coil. I regapped the Autolite 45's to .040. After maybe 150 miles and much fiddling with timing and carb adjustments and not much success, I pulled the...

    Cold spark plug, cold engine?

I was reading on another list about one guy's claim that a colder heat range spark plug actually dropped the operating temp of his engine. Never heard that one before. Can anyone else back up his testimony?

    Odometer setting

I've got a new to me Speedo that reads 0 miles and I want to set it to show the current mileage of the one I'm replacing. I need to add 22k + miles. My drill runs about 40 MPH. At that rate it would take nearly a month 27/7 to do it. Is there a way to take a shortcut? Please spare me the legal...

    Engine compartment detail

So how do you all keep those engine compartments all spic and span? I'd like to keep my fresh engine looking that way as best as I can. I've had bad luck with the common engine degreasers removing paint and leaving spots. Is there something better?

Calling on the wisdom again, I'm stumped

Lets go back to square one. I've had some good discussion and input from this collective wealth of knowledge on this irritating problem. I've made some changes/improvements but I still am not satisfied with the smoothness of this engines idle. Back to the facts: 1966 289 2V, CA emissions...

    Stinky AC

My wonderful Classic Auto Air "Not so perfect fit system" has had a problem draining all the condensate. I think I've improved it some but I've got a nasty mildew oder coming from the vents. :barf: Anyone have suggestion for deoderant?
