    Glowing Headers

I don't think this is an issue simply of unburned fuel being dumped into the headers, like with a too rich mixture. The issue is that the combustion event has been moved into the exhaust. That's exactly what happens with retarded ignition timing, and it can happen if the exhaust valve event...

    Glowing Headers

On a 5.0, if your headers glow there is a 99% chance that your ignition timing is retarded. This is normally caused by not knowing how to set the timing. I've seen guys time it through the hole in the timing pointer instead of at the edge of the pointer where it says "TIME", forget to take out...

    EGR valve delete questions

Throw the valve away, put a block off plate on the back of the EGR spacer, and turn EGR off in your chip. You can make a block off plate out of sheet metal. -Matthew

Where did everybody go? Part 2

I check in every once in a while, but I think a lot of guys have migrated to mustangcanada.com, especially after they were featured in Cyberstallions in MM&FF. It just seemed like there were no more Canadians on this forum, and not much to talk about. -Matthew

    Mega Ford Weekend ROCKED!

Yeah, that car is pretty loud with the open headers. We normally run a full Flowmaster 50 series street exhaust, but I could see the competition was going to be stiff out there so we took it off to save the 48 pounds. I had it in the box of the truck all weekend in case someone complained too...

Mega Ford Weekend at Mission BC

Well it was a good time, and I came away with Outlaw 10.5 Runner Up, plus a wild bid in the True Street/Enduro class that saw me make three 10 sec passes in 9 minutes before the car got too hot to continue. One of my friends/customers with an 05 GT with a Hellion kit made a run that they told...

    Mega Ford Weekend ROCKED!

We had a good time there and came away with Outlaw runner up, so it was worth the trip from Calgary. Thanks for all the pictures posted in your other thread. -Matthew

Power To The Pavement- Heads Up Street Car Shootout

Thanks Mike. Yeah, I won Quick Street. Too bad about Bryce's Camaro - I set up the FAST XFI in that car and he is a heck of a nice guy, but I guess the best brand won! I posted some video of my car at the event, and another customer's car running True Street at...

    Know anything about AutoTap?

That system has its glitches, but if you have a little patience, it works ok. -Matthew

how much timing can your engine take?

These cars make best power on pump gas between 30 and 32 degrees total. 14 degrees initial will give you 30 degrees total. If you are running more than 16 degrees initial, you will be giving back power whether it pings audibly or not. -Matthew

    Axles

If you want to run a differential, 31 is as big as you can go with the 8.8. If you plan to run a spool, you can go with 33 spline. -Matthew

NHRA Street Legal Drags June 1,2, Medicine Hat

Are you guys seriously going to hold Power 2 the Pavement on the same weekend as Three Hills Cruise Nite? I thought this event was normally around Father's Day. Really, I want to go to both. -Matthew

    question about mass air sensors

If you change the area of the opening in the MAF, either by swapping your electronics into a bigger housing or altering the stock housing by cutting obstructions out, you will change the electrical response relative to the actual amount of air flowing through it, and it will no longer match the...

    pi and supercharge?

You are up in the 11:1 range with the PI headswap. That's too high for supercharging if you ask me. -Matthew

is this true fuel regulator myth

You can make small Air/Fuel ratio changes with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator which may help you to optimize the car on a dyno without an electronic calibration. At WOT, the O2 sensors are ignored, so the AFR change introduced by a change in fuel pressure will not be "learned away" by the...

    Solid motor mounts

I run solid engine mounts with a stock transmission crossmember in a SBF/TKO 600 combination and it works fine. My understanding is that with production blocks there is some risk of distorting the block with solid mounts under very high stress loads (when it torques over hard). This could be an...

ahhh headswap done...but one more question

It shouldn't misfire at idle, and you shouldn't have to go through a lengthy procedure to relearn anything. As someone suggested, make sure you have premium fuel because you just upped the compression significantly. After that, double check your plugs and connections, and look for any vacuum...

    Couple of questions...

Your car will throw a code if you remove the EGR valve and don't eliminate it with a chip. The higher MPH speedo came on 1990+ cars. Don't quote me on this, but if I remember right the harness is slightly different on the earlier clusters and you can't directly swap them. I could be wrong on...

    347 or 351????

The 351 hardware is all a size up from the 302 based motor, and the block is a lot stronger. I personally chose a 351W instead of a stroker 302 and am happy that I did. -Matthew

What head gaskets for TF heads?

I've used Fel Pro 1011-2's on TFS heads on both a 302 and 351W combination with no problems. I used ARP bolts on the 302, and ARP studs on the 351W. Both combinations were naturally aspirated. -Matthew
