If you were driving around with the tv cable unhooked you fried the tranny.

You can use them both.

There's no reason why you can't reach your goal. A good converter such as a PI or Edge along with a good sets of heads and intake will get you there. You can do it with the stock or a mild cam. Check out the site in my sig for lots of good AOD info and cars.

Your shifter cable is definitely out of wack. It should click into park with no effort at all. Every time you are "wacking" it into park, you are stretching the cable, so fix that asap.

don't get anything off the shelf. With a converter you get what you pay for. Go with a custom Edge or PI Stallion and you will be very happy.

Look into edge like was mentioned above...they make great converters.
