New Build: Classic Mustang on a Crown Vic chassis

I'm happy seeing any part of that old horse on the road (or track), it appears to have been put to pasture many moons ago. A perfect "donor" for a project like this. Keep us updated!

    Post Pics of Your Mustang

Right. The cost of just the paint (~17 years ago) was $4k. It would cost far more than that to have it applied professionally. I love the way your car looks. I've always regretted selling my '05.

That looks great, I would not have known it was a wrap! I think it was the 1997 Cobras that had the Mystic paint, a guy in the local club had his rear quarter dented, shop wanted $4k just for the paint, since it required the whole car to be sprayed...shudder.

Took this pic today... ...after replacing the electric water pump with an old-school mechanical version, still need the belt.

Here's my WIP, owned it even longer! (please disregard the trail of fluid leading to my parking space, that is a long story LOL)

What rear axle bearing size do I have?

Nikosia, I do not think large bearings came on the 7.5 or the 8.0, only the 9.0 had them.

Any Of The Old Timers Still Here?

I'm working on mine as much as I can, probably about half of my weekends are spent farting around on it. It looks much better than it did back when I was posting here 25 times a day, and it runs, is insured, street-legal...but I'm afraid to get more than a mile or so from home :-) Here's what...

    Convertible top frames

I had my frame out at a shop for appraisal, wanted them to replace all the bushings/bearings/springs/cables/yadda-yadda and powder-coat the metal for me. Their estimate was well over what it costs to buy a new frame outright. I was pretty surprised and disappointed. So I found a guy in...

    NEED HELP!!!!

Did we determine that you are NOT starting it while in gear? That is pretty dangerous and a positive indication that something is wired wrong. It is normal for an engine to bog down a little (drop 100-200 RPM) when put into gear, if the idle is already as low as it can go that small drop in RPM...

    Retrofit a point distributor

Did not intend to insult or touch any nerves here. I appreciate the "below 3,000 RPM" comment, that is where engines spend most of their time, and thus the range you should build a driver for. I'm what I'd call old too, but only 54. Not a certified mechanic (maybe on computers and networks) but...

Remember when the Probe was almost called the Mustang?

Agreed, a big electric SUV seems to be what consumers want. The name "Mach 1" doesn't belong on anything that is not a Mustang though, and to be honest the nose of that thing looks too Mustangish too. Not that I don't like the look, I do, but it doesn't belong on a SUV with 24 inch wheels.

    Retrofit a point distributor

Swapping the old distributor out for a dual-point used to be the hot ticket, but that was long ago. I'm hard pressed to accept any argument in favor of running points today unless concourse is your goal. I see the bit about simplifying the wiring, that is a good goal (but not worth the...

    Oil sending unit

Yes you are right if the question is regarding that canister on the extension (very close to the gas pump and oil filter) being your oil-pressure sending unit. I do not know any way to tell the difference between the canisters designed for a gauge versus those designed for a light. I'm not...

Remember when the Probe was almost called the Mustang?

We dodged that bullet back in ~1986, v6-powered front-wheel-drive, they backed off and kept the Fox alive. Looks like the Mustang heritage just dodged another one... https://www.motor1.com/news/263997/ford-mustang-suv-no-mach/

Exciting, please keep the non-FB updates coming, I had an FB account for almost a year, but that was over 3 years ago.

    My 67 project

This is like the old-timer's thread! Before I forget to ask...WTF is the green gunk on the LH tail light? Looks like the Grinch was...err...well...never mind. I remember your '67, and shudder at the mere thought of a parking lot engine swap. My project car is in the final stages, maybe only...

Converting My 1967 Convertible C4 To Manual

In to subscribe...been considering getting rid of the AOD in my '67 vert in favor of a 5 or 6 speed MT. I was thinking I'd do an aftermarket pedal with hydraulics but still want to keep informed of this.

instructions or checklist for full window install

I found their videos on Youtube. View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9uBLsG8p00 My problem is, it addresses installing the regulator, not the glass. In that video the glass remained inside the door and on both the front and rear runs. I'm stuck trying to figure out how to get the glass in...

instructions or checklist for full window install

I've been updating the blog as I work slowly through the windows. Got the two front vent windows in this weekend, that takes care of the front-runs, also got the rear runs installed so I just need regulators and glass. One of my big hurdles was finding a strong way to attach the verticle...
