Im dealing with the same thing, same discription exactly. I thought it was a lifter too, Im going to take the intake off to check. Please post your findings if you find a fix.

While test driving my new combo, the engine lost all oil pressure. I pulled the distributer and no shaft. I could barley see the lower half, looks like it snapped right in two. My engine should have 350hp, at what hp level should you upgrade the oil pump shaft? Has anyone elses shaft snapped...
