Pinion Seal Replacement: Is this all I need to Know?

If you put a new crush collar in you are going to have to remove axles and carrier to get the proper pre-load on the pinion bearings. The only torque you should be concerned with is the torque it takes to rotate the pinion gear, 8-14 inch pounds for old bearings, 16-29 in/lbs. for new bearings...

    Stupid Mustang...

There should be a self-locking nut on there, if that nut is the original one it has obviously lost it's self-locking feature. Put a new self-locking nut on there and torque it to 55-92 Ft/lbs. (per Ford manual) Good Luck.

Do I still need this anymore?

That would be another option. For me, at the time, it was easier just to bolt it back on.

    Fuel filler gasket

Yes I did. It is a little tricky getting the filler neck lined up with the screw holes (around the gas cap) when reinstalling the tank but overall not bad.

    Fuel filler gasket

The local dealer I went to had it in stock. It seems to be a common problem. The parts guy even thought the price was a little steep. He said Ford just changed vendors for it and thus the price hike. Good Luck. :)

    Fuel filler gasket

That's the filler neck grommet. I had to go to the Ford dealer last year and fork over about $30 bucks for one.:nonono:

Do I still need this anymore?

This also acts as a pinion snubber, so keep in mind if you remove it your drive shaft will start rubbing your e-brake cables when your rear suspension "squats".

    Need to find this...

I am having this same dilemma. I have been carrying around a full size spare. Problem is it takes up most of the trunk space because it doesn't fit in the spare well. I am leaning towards the fix a flat option unless I find a really good deal on a cobra spare. As mentioned above, the GT...

Things that I will be doing to my Stang.

Finally have enough of the gear whine? :D Are those 3.73's or 4.10's? Looking forward to seeing how the head lights turn out :nice:

who has bought their stang new

I purchased my 95GT new in August of '95 right after graduating from college. The salesman said I should wait a month for the new 4.6's and I said no I want the 5.0. :nice: I have never regretted it since. The car was my daily driver until 2000 and it spends a lot of time in the garage...

    100LL with high flow cats?

100LL or 100 Low Lead is aviation gasoline. It has 2 grams of lead per gallon. I would not do it with cats. I assume you must work at an FBO or know someone that does because it currently runs anywhere from $4-$6 a gallon. :D

Heres what I did yesterday on my day Off.

Did you have problems with the Tokico hp's or just worn out? I am getting ready to install some with my Eibach prokit.

What fluid SHOULD i run in a stock 8.8?

Either your pinion gear has loosened up or you have too much backlash between your carrier (ring gear) and pinion gear. If your pinion flange (what drive shaft bolts to) is moving front to back as you turn the driveshaft, your pinion gear has loosend up. Or if when you rotate the driveshaft...

Anybody who has used the Proform pinion tool

I agree 100% with this. When I installed my gears I received some pointers from a professional and he explained this method to me. As it turned out, the original pinion shim of .028" was the same shim the new one took. What Bosko5.0 is referring to about tapping the pinion gear during the...

converting rear GT brakes to cobra

Take a look at this link: http://www.sn95brakes.com/sn95brakes.php Step 6. "Upgrade to the 94-98 Cobra 11.65" vented rotors. You need the Cobra specific axle bracket, anti-moan bracket and rotor. You use your existing caliper with the cobra pads (they are thinner to accommodate the...

    95gt brakes to 98 Cobra?

Why not make it a little simpler, do everything except the cobra master cylinder. If you don't like the feel of the pedal then swap the master cylinder. I have run the complete cobra brake kit, except the master cylinder for 3 years now with absolutley no problems.

converting rear GT brakes to cobra

I am speaking from first hand experience here. I went through this and the GT calipers DID NOT work with the pictured cobra rear kit. As a mechanic by trade, I was very upset that I read on forums that the GT calipers would fit the cobra kit when in actuality they did not. There is nothing...

    95gt brakes to 98 Cobra?

I would trust what Maximum Motorsports says I've had nothing but good experience with them. The cobra mc bore size is 15/16" and the above info seems to be correct on the GT being 1 1/16" and 93 cobra mc's being 1". I stand corrected about the 93 mc being the same as the 94+ cobra. Here is...
