Not disagreeing with you about the small block strokers being a good choice..However they aren't cheap if built with good parts...The big blocks can make excellent power using mostly stock parts if you get one that had good heads from the factory..

My first though was the front seal that goes into the timing cover?..Can't think of any "sleeves" with a gasket set...

I believe the repo 67 units go for about $1000 bucks!..I would do some research on ebay and see what they are going for..The 67 will probably bring a fair bit more than the 68 as they are just a little sexier looking...If you think you are ever going to want one for your car I would hang on to...

They are both for automatic shifters..The padded on the left is for 1968 and the other one is 67..

You are on the right track with replacing the top end of that motor..The stock heads are horrible and the performer is not much better than a stock 4V intake..It would be nice if you had more compression..Since the motor is fresh and you probably don't want to change the pistons I would go with...

Yes those tires will be a major problem in running a decent time..Especially with a stick car.. I have to disagree about not feeling much difference between a low and a high 12 second car..That is a huge difference in power...

I am thinking of getting a set of those as well to put some bigger tires on my 68..I wish I could keep the factory trim rings though for a stock look..

Dennis here is what I did on my sister's car....Just a simple extension of the factory line and a home made bracket...I also found by turning the position of the flex line on the rear end housing you can gain some additional clearance if you need it...

As said before the X pipe has a more modern raspy kind of sound where the H pipe is more old school muscle car sounding..One other thing is the X pipe makes things pretty tight in the driveshaft tunnel area..If you go that route make sure you leave yourself room to access whatever you may need to..

It will depend on the backspacing of your rims..Do you know what they are?

+1..... Also check your cables and connections but I would bet on a weak starter or advanced timing...Do you have headers that run close to the starter?

Unless I am not understanding you right you would get less clearance(driveshaft pushes into trans) with wieght on the wheels?

The extra compression will be a nice bonus...One thing to watch is your piston to valve clearance..Those 205 heads have much bigger valves than the stock ford heads..
