Need advice on purchase: 66 Mustang

Good call on passing that one up. You should be able to find a good number of mustangs to check out in your area. Just don't be in a hurry.

    Anyone try this yet???

Kevin Tetz is doing something like that on his 66 coupe. I'm still up in the air about whether it will look right or not, but he is doing a fantastic job. This is his site: Paintucation Blog -

    Hoods

Anybody ever done a shaker style hood on an early mustang?

Looking at buying this car. How much should I pay?

I already have a 66 coupe 289 4sp, p/s, disk brake car, but it is RUSTY! I have been gathering panels for it, but now I am thinking if I could find a rust-free or at least a lot less rust rolling shell for a reasonable price, then I would probably go that route instead. I don't mind replacing...

Looking at buying this car. How much should I pay?

I would kill to get a coupe in that shape for a few hundred. I live in Iowa and my budget gets the metal that the rust left behind. What part of TX could a guy like me find a solid coupe for a real good deal? I have siblings in DFW so a road trip would be cool.

    new toy. (tool related)

I also have the hobart 140. $410 at TSC a couple years ago. I didn't get a bottle yet, but did get some flux core wire. Anyone know what the difference between welding with flux core or gas shielded wire is as it pertains to auto sheet metal? I love the 140 and recommend it to anyone wanting...

    line drawing

Actually, this will work. Anything other than solid color I do will be only on the hood, and maybe down the side. Although, if you have the coupe side view, could you post it? I might want to play with that as well. Thanks!:nice:

Does anyone have a line drawing that could be printed off for designing a 66 coupe? Thanks.

1965 Mustang by Barris at Petersen Museum

It almost looks like a Javelin. It is ugly IMHO, but I'm glad it is in a museum for the semi-historical aspect of it anyway.

    2.3L LX Conv. Parts car.

I recently acquired a parts car for my 93 LX convert. I was thinking I saw somebody used the power brake booster in a classic with some mods. Anyone have a link for something like this? Also, is there any other parts I could use off it for my 66 coupe (ex. p.s. pump, Alt.) Thanks.

Manual trans from fairmont futura in 66 mustang?

Absolutely I would be happier, but my budget does not allow for that for now, and I would like to get this car on the road sooner than later. Plus this is a low mileage trans. I know it's not as good as a five speed or a toploader, but I am not building a hot engine, just building a cruiser...

Manual trans from fairmont futura in 66 mustang?

It's out of a "78 I think (I would have to double check) with a I-6 in it. It will be going behind a 289 with barely more than stock HP. Also, will the I-6 bell housing work?

Manual trans from fairmont futura in 66 mustang?

Has anyone swapped a 3ps with OD man trans from a ford fairmont futura into a classic? I'm just curious how hard will it be to get linkages and mounting right. It is from a 6cyl.

    Finally getting my childhood car

I'd say you got it for a good price. It looks like you have good neighbors too! :)

Is this worth it before I go back to Iraq?

If it is only a 9 month old paint job, it should not be bubbling. What else is hiding under there?

    Cracked head light baskets

I talked to a couple guys that suggested just using the JB Weld. The pieces that come with that repair kit aren't the areas I need to repair. I made a couple small brackets for the back of them for a little extra strength. I think It will be fine as the area's aren't structural to to mounting...

    Cracked head light baskets

Anyone ever try to fix cracked head light baskets? Are they Cast metal? I have a few minor cracks in mine ('66) and thought I would try fixing them before replacing them. Thanks, Jason

    resto questions

It needs a pretty good amount of work. It needs floors, a bit of frame work at the rear (maybe 12" or so), and also fenders, door skins, hood well you get the idea. I'll probably be swearing at myself sometime in the restoration, but it's also one of those things I've always wanted to do...
