    Manual Tranny Fluid

No offense taken. Well, I was thinking about getting my fluid changed and that's what the guys at the "oil change" place told me. I honestly don't know how the process goes. Maybe it's just as simple as drain and fill.

    Manual Tranny Fluid

I just wanted to verify with you guys that Automatic Transmission fluid goes in my 5sp and not gear oil. How many quarts? My tranny is due for a fluid flush, which i've never had done before so I want to make sure I get the correct stuff put in. 98 GT w/ 91,xxx miles

    Squeaky Clutch

I have the same problem. I had the Ford dealership look at it and they lubed some stuff up. That solved the problem for a day, so I'm not sure they did anything to fix it to begin with. My pedal squeeks as I'm releasing (travels up). This happens both when the engine is running and when it's...

I'm still confused about whl bearings on a '98

I've been calling around to get prices on getting my wheel bearings repacked. For the rear: Service guys have told me that the rears are not servicable since they are lubed internally by the Diff fluid. Others have told me they can be repacked. One Ford service guy told me they can do all...

Wheel bearings a hummin' ...sealed, or not?

Difficult to pin-point .... since the cabin is already noisy due to it being a covertible. The hum isn't very loud, just louder than it used to be a few months ago.

Wheel bearings a hummin' ...sealed, or not?

I drive a 98 GT Conv w/ about 88,xxx miles and was wondering about the types of wheel bearings on it. I've heard on car talk that '94+ Stangs switched to sealed front bearings and I'm assuming the rears are not. I've called the local dealership to ask about repacking my wheel bearings and they...

    Pop-pop-poppin' sounds when turning right

Dealer won't pay for it. I forgot to mention it's a '98 so the dealership won't pay squat. Here's another issue. I had an extended warranty and was 100 miles before expiring when I took the car in for this issue with the popping sound. Could it be that the ford mechanic had a case of...

    Pop-pop-poppin' sounds when turning right

I took the car in a few weeks ago 'cause I was noticing a popping sound when turning the steering wheel clockwise (right turn) when pulling into a parking spot. The mechanic checked the front suspension and didn't find anything wrong. Now that I'm aware of the sound I can't stop hearing it...

painNon tech ? - What to use for removing paint overspray on window trim?

Forgot to mention .... the paint has been on the plastic/rubber trim piece for months so it's not "fresh". Will thinner still work?

painNon tech ? - What to use for removing paint overspray on window trim?

Non tech ? - What to use for removing paint overspray on window trim? My car door paint was touched up and I noticed some slight overspray on the window trim. What's the best way to remove this? Paint thinner, turpentine, acetone, mineral spirits??? Vodka!? Would masking tape be safe...

    What's wrong with my A/C?

I drive a '98 so it uses R-134A. Thanks for clearing that up. As for your comments, I have noticed that the compressor DOES cycle on and off every few seconds when on full blast. It sounds like there may be a leak. Are there any typical leak locations on Mustang 4.6s? I would hope for...

    What's wrong with my A/C?

I had it recharged w/ 1lb of whatever they use now. I'm not sure if Freon is still used. NEway, it blew cold air for a few weeks and now I find that it struggles to put out even cool air. It does cool down after driving on the highway for about 20 minutes, but never really gets cold even on...

Suspected intake crak but I'm not sure.

Cracked intake would be my guess. I had a similar leak and when I took it in to the dealer they told me the intake was cracked. A far too common problem ...so common that there has been a class action lawsuit against Ford. Not sure if you got a letter in the mail, but check out...

brake smoke after new pad install

Supposedly they did. The shop rebuilt the rear calipers and put in new brake pad mounting hardware so supposedly they fixed the problem with the binding caliper. I'm just not sure if there's a break in period where there's extra friction between the pad and rotor during normal driving that...

brake smoke after new pad install

I took my car in to get new pads put in at a Just Brakes in Orlando and turned out a rear caliper was binding. I had them rebuild both rear calipers. Well, that night I took the car out on a 15 mile highway drive with minimal braking. When I parked I smelled burning brake pad. I inspected...

Sugar/coke in gas tank will damage engine. Fact or Myth?

Sorry for the double post .... Ok, sugar is one thing. That would probably clog my filter and may damage the fuel pump. What if the sugar was dissolved in a liquid? Would it then be able to pass through the filter?

Sugar/coke in gas tank will damage engine. Fact or Myth?

Your guess as good as mine. ?? I don't remember pissing anyone off. It's still speculation. The mechanic saw a gummy substance and assumes it's sugar caramelized. I doubt he did some chemical analysis so it's not 100% certain. I'm hoping the insurance adjuster properly investigates. Here's...
