    The ring end gap is still within Hastings specs. What are you thinking on lifter preload? I have built about 20 engines but I am ready to drop this one off at Walker Racing for a second opinion.

    I used a DSS Racing 347 block, rotating kit from Coast HP, sent to local shop for balance and piston to bore sizing, then assembled myself. I did set the ring gap on the tighter end of the allowance. Heads where cleaned up but I cc'd them at 71 cc when done. Not sure what the deck hight was.

    C/R is supposed to be 9.3:1 but looks like it may be higher with the cam.

    It's a moly top ring, I can't imagine .030 as a recommended ring gap. I think the package said factory gap which I am not close to at this time. I'll have to look when i get home.

    I know, it's a tipical diagnosis. But in every build I got the pistons tighter. There's no way it can be piston knock at .00175 fit. Thanks

    The springs where tested when the heads rebuilt. I have run Crane lifters in one set up but no improvement. I was thinking of the oil weight before, I ran 10-30, 10-40 and 20-50 after break in.     I have driven each one through a tank or more after trying to diagnose. The last one I have in now has been driven for probably 600 miles and still sounds the same. Once warm, no one notices, but let it cool down for a half hour and you can hear it. Almost like something is hitting somwhere inside.
