Black w/ White Stripes or Black w/ Tungsten Stripes

My best rule of thumb?? Never let "the average person" influence your decision-making when speccing a car.... Let's face it, "the average person" isn't the brightest bulb on the tree, is he?.... If folks don't know the difference between Eleanor and a real Shelby, then.... their opinion...

Why buy GT500 over Saleen PJ?????????

Your collectible theory has a few good points, but is not watertight... Exceptions to the rule exist, but usually at lower production numbers, such as Saleen does... The Saleens WILL be collectible, regardless of how much faster the horsepower wars go, due to the same mystiques and desirable...

Black w/ White Stripes or Black w/ Tungsten Stripes

You're reading more into those auctions than you should. The folks buying those cars aren't savvy collectors, they are dealers and speculators and a smattering of so-insanely-rich guys that they "just don't care" what the price tag is, but amusingly, are TOTALLY out of their league when it comes...

Why buy GT500 over Saleen PJ?????????

So true... It's not that I'm not a fellow horse-power junkie, but it does get a bit silly when everything comes down to the drag-race. If you're really so obsessed with straight-line bragging rights in a Ford, build a tubbed crate-engined n2o'd Pinto.. It'd wax the Shelby every time, for 1/5th...

Black w/ White Stripes or Black w/ Tungsten Stripes

Well, there ya go 07SHELBYCOBRA..... the most definitive and slam-dunk reason we've seen, and may ever see, to encourage you to go with black and white and shun the gray... I never thought of it before, but that's right, black & charcoal gray are the Eleanor colors, just reversed.... I knew...

    Hmmm, strange, GT500KR possibly?

That right there would be enough to push me over the edge to the rarer, more exclusive S281 Extreme... Especially considering the "usual suspects" will be paying premiums above and beyond for the car... The mystique with the name Shelby is getting crazy, to the point that it's not about the...

    Hmmm, strange, GT500KR possibly?

No, no... They were just confused... The car is due 5/03 according to their information, and they've got the misinformation cleared-up... It's not a large dealership, they've only been able to acquire and sell two GT500's prior to mine, and they were both totally different than my order-spec...

    Hmmm, strange, GT500KR possibly?

False alarm, dealer purchasing goof providing half-ass information. My car is not drop-shipping to Shelby. Sorry for wasting the bandwidth...

    Hmmm, strange, GT500KR possibly?

O.K., help me out here somebody... I've had a GT500 on-order for.... well, FOREVER. My initial order confirmation with my dealer was 4/27/2006. That's what you get by being offered an MSRP deal I suppose, you wait 'till your turn on the totem pole.. Anyhow, no worries about that, I could...

Black w/ White Stripes or Black w/ Tungsten Stripes

I've got black with white stripes on order, but I'm not getting the Leman's stripes, only the rocker stripes. My reasons for going white were: 1. Looks crisper, cleaner 2. The new Shelby is very derivative of the 1968 Shelby. 1968 Shelbys never came with silver or "tungsten" stripes...

    Shelby GT500 vs. Saleen S281E

I agree with you within the contexts you specified, and I too dislike the Roush styling. It's clumsy, haphazard, goofy-old-man-disease in places, and just not a well-integrated package from a styling standpoint. Everytime I see one, it screams "somethings not right" from several different areas...

which will be faster 07 shelby GT500, or 06 saleen SC, both stock.

    1. Going to websites for your performance statistics is called "bench racing", a favorite practice amongst teenagers and the hopelessly car-clueless... 2. At my local NHRA-sanctioned track, I've seen several different stock Z06 Corvette's with adequate drivers run mid-high 11's in the 1/4...

Why buy GT500 over Saleen PJ?????????

You can find plenty of GN's for $6-8K for sure.... But they'd be of the beaten-to-death-not-worth-the-trouble-from-a-purely-financial-standpoint variety... In short, you'll find clapped-out, toasted, roasted, roaches in that price range.... Nice, well-preserved virgin low-mile examples in...

Why buy GT500 over Saleen PJ?????????

You need to adjust for inflation. When you factor inflation, you find that your car isn't worth much more than it sold for new. For instance $16K in 1986 is equal to over $29K today. Then add in the cost of keeping insurance over that span of years, storage, a/c and/or heat...

O.K., this debate is stale, and slightly loony.... Sports cars and random gunfire?? I'm surprised you muster up enough courage to pull out of the driveway. But you're correct, it DOES come down to maturity and self-control... It's in defining what is "mature" and what comprises "control" that...

Regarding fatality rates, I've got a strong feeling that you're speculating wildly, due to the fact that whenever a bozo loses it in a curve doing 160 after a night of clubbing in a sportscar, or some nitwit deposits the 12-cylinder from his Enzo in the middle of the PCH, it's all over the...

O.K., I give up Ned Flanders... In retrospect, I don't know how I've made it to 40 without a wreck, since by virtue of having some track experience, I must be a menace to society and WAY too over-confident on the road. Defensive driving is not a cure-all, it's not a replacement for knowing...

Suffice it to say that you're buying performance cars for some different reasons and motivations than me. I could care less about bragging rights, I like the performance because I enjoy exploiting it, exploring it, feeling it, being adrenelized by it, and I love driving, and I appreciate...

Jeez, where do I start? So, you don't run at a 1/4 mile track (where 60mph is just getting hooked and rolling in 2nd gear...) You're too sophisticated to exceed 70 mph on the street... (I'm not endorsing reckless driving either, but there's a point where you may as well stay home and...

This whole standing-start or roll thing has gotten ridiculous, and is missing the point. When judging two cars, I like to eliminate variables that don't really add-up to real-world driving fun or performance. Spinning tires is alot of fun, but if the car doesn't boogie after it hooks up, then...
