Att. All Afr Head owners, afr messed up

The AFR Guides should measure around .343 for their 11/32" valve stem size. They are NOT the same size as a Big Block Chevy. The BBC has a 3/8" stem size making the guide on the BBC around .373 as their valves usually measure .371. Looks like the wrong pushrods were used and the geometry is all...

    STARTER PROBLEMS HELP!!

Sounds like the starter drive is no good. It might spin and not engage meaning the drive is not throwing itself out to engage the flywheel. Take it and have it tested.

How can i make a ford 289--427 motor push 10,000+rpm?

I don't think it is feasable to spin it to 10,000 r.p.m. or higher and have reliability. You would have to have the lightest rotating assembly and valvetrain on the planet. Not to mention a block with some extra beefy main bearing bulkheads. Then there is the concern that the pushrods would...

    Got my intake today (Saleen/Vortech)

Those holes are there for fuel injectors. Back when these intakes came out guys were using these holes for nitrous and also blown applications to richen up the mixture. My vortec intake is the same as the one pictured above, has all the same bosses but they were not drilled.

    mounting locations for kill switch

I spaced out the lisence plate and hid the switch behind it. When racing just pull off the plate with a couple of wing nuts. I used a couple of studs with 2 nuts and then the plate and wing nuts. Makes for a handy kill switch that noone knows about. The plate was sandwiched in between the nuts.

axles are loose in the spider gears

Are you Sure the knock was comming from the spider gears? Did he check the backlash? When you say you are in and out of the throttle it bangs. It could be the backlash between the ring gear and the pinion gear.

    pistons hitting the heads

If they cut the deck .005 and the pistons .020 then the pistons will protrude out of the deck .005. run a .040 gasket and the quench will be .035. It will run good and there will be less chance for detonation. The ideal quench is anywhere from .035-.045 with steel rods. I'm sure they will...

    Got my intake today (Saleen/Vortech)

Nice! I have a Vortec intake. Same thing except it is missing the Saleen logo. Just says Vortec on it. I ran it for years on my 90 L.X. Worked good. Now the whole motor is going into my 88 G.T. Vert. They are pretty hard to find now. I remember when they retailed for $650.00 new. They were the...

    Busted main on 302 block

Why not ask the shop if they have another block for you. Usually you can pick up used bare blocks with caps for around $100.00. If you take a cap from another block you will have to align bore it. Align hone-ing will not work. There is a difference.

Just removed the tranny to change clutch......

When you put on the new steel bearing retainer, MAKE SURE it is good. I've seen many new ones lately where the steel sleeve will pull right out of the aluminum casting. I Found out the hard way the first time. There wasn't a proper interferance Or press fit for the sleeve. Pull on the sleeve...
