What all is needed to put performer r.p.m. heads on a 289

I had my RPM heads milled .015" and zero decked the block .015 to net .030". My estimate is a reduction of 5cc in the chamber volume. Milling the heads is about 2/3 as effective as decking the block. This is because part of the head surface that covers the combustion chamber is flat. On...

    sanding the interior

Sanding the dash you will be fine. Be careful on the doors. If you are too aggressive, you will sand the krinkle finish smooth. I'd probably use stripper and clean it up with some steel wool.

    Crankshaft Damper

That's a new one... please use the alternative method of removing the bell cover and lock the flexplate. With this method, you will probably f**k up your valvetrain since the rope/fan-belt is getting pinched between the valve and the piston!

    Need Help, Pistons binding.

Did you use plasti-gauge on the rod bearings? If the clearances are too tight it will keep you from being able to rotate the assembly. Also, use plenty of lube on the bearing surfaces. I used Lucas oil on the pistons.

    5.0 roller block

He's building a stroker. He will need Crank/Rods/Pistons and will have to notch the cylinder sleeves for the rods. Machining cost is about $450 to prep a block (clean, bore & hone, line bore, surface deck, install cam bearings, notch) and another $150 or so to balance the entire rotating...

    5.0 roller block

My $0.02... buy a pre-assembled short block. By the time you find a block, have it machined, and purchase the internals, you will easily equal the price of a pre-assembled one. Unless of course, you already have the internals.

Mac True-Fit Long Tube headers have these dimensions. They are available from Dallas Mustang for ~$250.

how much hp with this exhaust set up 5 hp at least?

It was a chassis dyno. It was a test done by 5.0 a couple years ago. The test used all the same tubing (can't remember if it was 2.5" or 3") and swapped out different combinations of mufflers with H and X pipes. The maximum difference found on a ~375HP engine was about 5HP. I'd have to go...

how much hp with this exhaust set up 5 hp at least?

IMHO, 3" is too big for your setup. You will lose velocity in the lower RPMs and it will hurt your low-end torque. You may pick up some peak HP but not sure there is an overall benefit. Average HP over the entire power band will probably be higher with the stock 2 1/4" exhaust. X vs. H is...

    Need help with a 289

If i'm not mistaken, the stock head volume is 54cc on the 289 head. Most aftermarket aluminum heads are 60cc and higher. You could pick up a set of used Windsor Jr. cast iron heads for ~$500 and have them milled .030 to get you close to the chamber volume. If they are fitted with a 2.02" intake...

Block back & painted engine parts

It will look great. I've seen a lot of engines painted after assembly (yuck). The prep-work you did will pay off, especially with the fresh gaskets showing between the painted parts. The gray exhaust manifolds will look perfect. Also, nice job masking the block. It looks like mine did!

Interesting thought to use the TBI unit. Should save a ton considering cost of injectors, rails, and fuel lines. You have probably already seen these but I thought I re-post anyway... Lots of cost saving information here: http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/ One of the nicest (stock...
