What is the best way to level the car with jackstands? i.e. placement of stands, etc. ALso where is the ideal place in the car to read the level, and get and acurate reading??

I just had a new ring and pinion installed. I got the 3rd member back from the speed shop, put it back together, and went for a drive. I now notice a low whine/roar at low speeds (i.e. slowing for a light.) Is this a big deal as I have no problems otherwise. What gives??
