    160° vs 180° Thermostat?

Agreed. Not only is wear accelerated, fuel dilution of the engine oil can be a problem as well. I have seen thermostats fail on large diesel engines and the used-oil-analysis that followed: iron, copper, and lead levels were all elevated and plenty of fuel in the oil. Of course this is an...

how to hook up mark VIII fan

The Mark VIII fan is two speed. One wire is for low, the other for high, and the third for the ground.

    octane and oil thoughts..

The visosity numbers you mentioned are good info, but I would like to point out that they are typical for those oils at ambient temperature on a hot summer day (40C). The viscosity difference between SAE 20 and SAE 30 at a typical operating temperature of 100C would likely be 2-4 cST, depending...

    Carb size

That 650DP is probably pretty close with a single plane intake manifold. If you think it is restrictive, try running a manifold vacuum hose into the cabin and connect a vacuum guage. At wide open throttle, you should have very little vacuum. I have a Weiand Team G single plane intake on the...

Ok, ready for some more help with my clacking engine..

When you take the rockers off to check out the pushrods, take a close look at the rocker arm itself and the pedestal stand. A cracked pedestal stand can cause some serious noise.

The idea of this forum is to provide technical information. He didn't ask if anyone thought it was a good idea. If you want to discuss opinions, take it to the talk forum.

Fuel mileage is too low, even for a V8 mustang!

If my memory is correct, the timing on an '85 GT is controlled by the computer based on its feedback from other sensors. If the computer or some of the sensors are disconnected, the timing won't advance. When you have the timing light on your car, move the throttle a few times to increase...

no oil pressure on first start up?

I didn't notice you had a roller cam, sorry about that. There is no "break in periord" per say compared to a flat tappet. As long as you have oil pressure, it will be fine. Even with a flat tappet, small block fords don't really have a problem wiping off a cam lobe. Nothing like a big...

Fuel mileage is too low, even for a V8 mustang!

You're running a 650 Edelbrock right? You may want to purchase a tuning kit for that carb and try leaning out the primaries. The edelbrocks usually run pretty good out of the box but require some tuning for optimal performance. If you aren't comfortable taking the carb apart, you can start by...

Dome, Flat Top, or Dish with Twisted Wedge

When in doubt, ask the machine shop what they need. Don't worry about the oil pan and such, the shop should wrap the shortblock in plastic or something to keep it clean. Did you purchase a balanced kit or is that being done by the shop?

Fuel mileage is too low, even for a V8 mustang!

Thank you. As he said, forget the fuel guage when you are calculating fuel economy.

no oil pressure on first start up?

You should avoid interrupting the cam break-in process if possible. Starting and stopping the engine a bunch of times to troubleshoot an oil pressure guage isn't going to do your new cam any favors. You may want to just install a mechanical guage until you are finished with your cam break-in.

65 Fastback 4.6 DOHC Turbo Progress Pics

Very impressive. Looks like a ton of custom work and fabrication. What do you plan to run for an ignition? -could be the angle, but it looks like there is very little clearance between the fuel pressure regulator and the exhaust.

Dome, Flat Top, or Dish with Twisted Wedge

All depends what compression ratio you want to achieve, and that should based on your camshaft and fuel choice.

    5.4 Triton V8 ?

The 5.4 is huge and heavy, it would be a very tight fit in the engine bay. I'm not saying it can't be done, but it would be challanging. In addition, it is more intended for low end torque than high rpm horsepower. Is there a particular reason you are considering the 5.4 other than you...

    couple of ?'s 4 n00by

This LT1 you want to challange, what type of car is it in? Is it stock? If you're racing a stock firebird or camaro, your mustang will definitely give them a run for the money. If it is a modded LT1, that is a different story. Have you ever run your car at the track?

    350 in 84 stang?

Yes, you can certainly fabricate the crossmember/k-member if you have the skills and tools available. A driveshaft shop would be able to make the driveshaft. The car I have seen was running a Monte Carlo driveshaft that had been shortened and had a Ford yolk welded on the end.

    350 in 84 stang?

It is possible, there is a guy at my local track that runs a SBC in a fox body. You will need a custom K-member, either fabricate one or purchase one from Jegs. They make one that will work with a SBC. http://www.jegs.com/i/Anthony%20Jones/040/MU-3030/10002/-1 As for headers, most guys...

What is the idle set on 85 GT

What did you do with the factory emissions/egr when you swapped to the Edelbrock? Make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks. All in all it sounds like you have everything set up pretty good. Might just be the nature of the beast. Just out of curiosity, why did you ditch the OEM holley?
