Just bought a 90 GT that was converted by the previous owner from auto to manual. I am not sure what car the T5 came out of. Are there any differences in the clutches between T5 transmissions? There is no ID on the tranny for me to identify it. I will most likely go with the FRPP king cobra...
There are no tags on the bellhousing bolts. Hmm... Are there any other ways to tell? Does it even matter? Are there any differences in clutches for the T5 between years/models?
Does anyone make aftermarket aluminum hoods and if so what is the weight savings and cost? I've always been wary of fiberglass due to cracking issues...
Don't mean to steal the thread but...when I start my car there's a really loud grinding noise. It goes away as soon as the car starts. Sounds like the engine is trying to start without oil (obviously it is but I can't describe it any other way). Maybe it's the starter making the noise but it...
Thanks Hissin. For some reason my car didn't pass emissions at the referree so now I'm going back to the place I originally had it smogged to try again. I HATE CA SMOG!
I passed the visual portion of smog by going to the referree. He gave me a diagram he found that says that only the 4 cylinder had the CE in 88. If anyone wants this I can fax it to them. Email me at [email protected]. Brian
I am going to a state referee to get it to pass. This is ridiculous. I will check my manual but I seriously doubt it will say that it doesn't have a CE light. What BS. There's got to be lots of 88 49 state cars in CA. How does everyone else get them to pass smog? Pay the guy off?
What the hell. I just talked to a friend of mine who works at a Ford dealer and he insisted that the SD and MAF cars both had check engine lights in 88. Argh! Can anyone find proof?!
He showed me in the book where it says that the 88 has a check engine lite with EEC-IV. I didn't tell him it was a non-CA car though. I'll call him. Thanks for the advice.
That's what I thought! It's not a CA car so it's speed density. I wonder where I could find proof that the 88 doesn't have a check engine light so he'll pass me. I hate to spend another $30 to go somewhere else. Ideas?
Do I have a check engine light in my 88 5.0? I took it to get it smogged and it passed emissions but since the light didn't go on when the key was turned on he failed me. I could have sworn that the 88 doesn't have one but when he checked the book it said 87 doesn't, 88 does. Anyone?
I have a 90 GT that was converted from auto to 5 spd. I don't know what the 5 spd tranny came out of. Are there any identifying marks on the tranny that would tell me what type of car, what year, etc?
Here's the scoop. I have a 90 GT that was converted from an auto to a 5 spd. Did all 90 autos come with 2.73 gears or was there a 3.08 option with the Z code (I haven't looked on my door panel yet)? Here's the tricky question...I'm not sure what year 5 spd transmission was put in there. I...
I'm resurrecting this thread to say...I have a 16 tooth gear in my stock 88 with the 2.73 rear end. I also have a 90 (lucky me) that was converted from AOD to 5 spd. I have heard that in 90 the drive gear was changed to 8 tooth. Needless to say, the speedo is off. I think the 90 has stock...
