    3G alternator conversion

I personally don't use mega-fuses. I use fusible links like the factory does. I use two 12 gauge fusible link wires with ring eyes on the ends. They can be put together in the ring eyes or separate. Then I make a connection block with terminals that you simply use nuts to hold the fusible...

    Long tubes or Tri-Y's

If the AOD is a big bellhousing transmission with the larger flywheel then the Tri-Ys are not going to fit. They hug the tranny too closely and end up into the bellhousing. I think they only fit 157 toothed flywheel transmissions. If the AOD uses the smaller, older style, bellhousing then you...

    ENGINE MOUNT DEGREE ANGLE???

I am not sure about Cougars but something tells me that it is probably the same as the Mustang. Every Mustang I have ever measured was at 3 degrees relative to the rocker panel.

Clunks in the drivetrain after manual conversion

It sounds like you have too much backlash in the gearset. That does not necessarily mean the gears are toast but that they might need some adjustments. An inspection of the carrier assembly should tell you what you are dealing with. If you need to only adjust the backlash then move the...

    Hipo 289 Induction

I never said they were really daily driver friendly. :D The only issue is the air cleaner one though. I don't run them. I took my engine apart at 15K miles after the rebuild and the Weber install and there was nothing that looked any different inside that a normal engine. I simply changed...

    Hipo 289 Induction

I am assuming you never owned one with a Weber setup then. There is no comparison.

    Side Scoop installation

    The originals were riveted on.

Anyone Try a Convertible Top Install?

I did the one on my 57 T-Bird and that one has a completely removable folding top. It is not necessarily hard but time consuming for someone inexperienced. The key to a good top is making sure the frame is in good shape. Rebuild it first with new bushings and pins. Have it powdercoated if...

    Taurus fan mystery part

Looks like a self resetting circuit breaker to me.

If anyone is interested my 66 Fastback build site.

I sure hope you have a plan to stiffen up the front end after the Heidts install. Just covering the hole where the shock towers were is not enough. These cars need the triangulation that the braces from the shock towers to the cowl provide. Just installing a Mustang II setup in a classic as...

    mystery granada rear

Sounds like you have a 7.5" rear Ford used in FOX chassis cars before they switched to the 8.8. It is pure junk. Get rid of it as soon as you can.

    Unisteer Rack & Pinion

My buddy John (SnakeStang65) called and talked with Unisteer the other day and then called me to discuss. This rack has only 3.5 turns lock to lock and only 6 inches of travel. It is about an inch short of full lock to lock steering on a 65/66.

    T5 swap - starter question

The FMX starter should interchange. Ford pretty much used the same starters for lots of applications. Stay with a starter recommended for you engine type and you should be OK for the most part. My friend replaced the FMX in his 69 Mach with a C4 and used the original starter.

    300+ HP 302 build

There is not stroke per se to a block. The stroke is built into the crankshaft and the rods. The blocks had "289" cast into them and when Ford switched they started having "302" cast into the lifter valley. I just went out and checked the '99 Explorer shortblock in my garage and it actually...

    air shocks

Air shocks are for ONE thing.....adding load carrying ability to a vehicle with a trailer. Even then they are marginal at best. In the 70's idiots used them to raise their cars up in the back to get huge steamroller tires under their cars because they were so wide they stuck out past the...

    Ballpark Figure On Cost???

Yes, a full quarter will cost you close to twice that.

    300+ HP 302 build

You can use the late model EFI wiring and everything with the system you are talking about. You just have to weld bungs in the intake for the injectors and make an adapter plate for the throttle body to fit where the carb is and you will have to figure out a way to make the Idle Air Bypass...

    300+ HP 302 build

A 300+ HP 302 these days is easy, especially if you are going with EFI. I can name you dozens of cars I have known that have hit the 300 RWHP number in Fox Mustangs. My buddy had a 94 Cobra that we did nothing but bolt ons to. It had Gt-40X heads, a Crane 2031 cam (Crane's E303), long tube...

    Unisteer Rack & Pinion

What is exactly the issue with the oil pan? Is it a cast aluminum Cobra one? If not then it can be modified. I would simply cut the pan until the rack fit and then fill the area with new sheet metal.
