Brakes The Ultimate 4-lug/5-lug Brake Conversion/upgrade Thread

All these plugs and dicks...you guys seem to have this conversion business down pat.

correct way to delete smog off of 88 5.0?

Thanks for the post jrichker. When I decided to upgrade my heads and intake, the first thing every redneck said was, "if I were you, I'd get rid of all that smog equipment...". Most people who say that don't have any clue about what does what on an EFI engine. For the OP, if you're going to...

Keeping 4 lug but adding rear disk brakes

What did you do about the brackets. At $150, those are ridiculous.

Keeping 4 lug but adding rear disk brakes

I'm going with the Cobra MC and sticking with 60mm front pistons. No need to upgrade at this time. Brand new Bendix unit at $37 ($45 shipped) can't be beat. 94/95's used metric threading I believe. Anyway, where to get the 3-2 port conversion? Matt90GT's website is not giving any love...

Keeping 4 lug but adding rear disk brakes

Thread resurrection I'm doing the same thing, but am NOT doing the T-bird axle swap as I have fairly new gears in the stock housing and everything is tight. 1) What is the part number for the soft lines to the calipers. Is that an SN-95 part? 2) Is there also an adapter fitting between...

is 350 rwhp possible with a N/A 5.0, GT40 irons, and Explorer intake?

Your cam will likely be the key to any top end power. Those long runners will make a torque king, but it will be out of breath by 5,500 rpm if not sooner. If you use the heads off a Lightning (not Cobra as those are milled), you'll be able to run around 9:1 compression. I'd like to do the...

    afr 205's on stock 302

"Optimal" depends on what you are trying to accomplish... If you really want to get the most out of those 205's, build a 347-408 and be done with it. Putting these heads on a 302 is not going to be easy nor very efficient, though it can be done. I think that's the first time I've ever quoted...

    afr 205's on stock 302

Peak lift does not determine p-v clearance. The timing of the valve events does. (Captain Obvious to the rescue here) A custom cam allows you to "optimize" the setup (i.e. get it to run as good as it can). However, if I have to run less than optimal cam specs from a performance standpoint...

    afr 205's on stock 302

True, it wouldn't be optimal, but it's within the realm of possibility :). I'd personally rather have a set of 165's, but for $800, those would make for a great trade.

    Making Gt40p's smog legal

When I installed mine in 2005, I found a company in Indiana that actually sold the heads with the passages drilled out and everything was supposed to line up. Instead of going with them, I just got a stock set of P's and simply left the air tube off the heads. I ran the air tube directly from...

    afr 205's on stock 302

With the right cam, almost anything will work. I'm not suggesting you spend a bundle on a custom cam to install a set of grossly oversized heads (for a 302) rather than save your money and build a proper stroker that could use these, but anything is possible...just not expedient.

    24# injector/Mass Air question....

The only way you can run 24's with stock Ford components is to have the X3Z computer and 70mm MAF housing that came on the Cobra/Thunderbird SC as the transfer function of that MAF is matched to those respective computers.

    Explorer intake on 93 GT

If there is an elongated passage under the throttle body opening, a round passage in the middle of the lower and rectangular passages on each head side of the lower you will be good to go. Some intakes from early 1997 have these passages cast in so hopefully you'll be in luck. The alternatives...
