    clutch keeps readjusting itself

One more thing to check on. The clutch fork will wear out where the throwout bearing slides across it's face. This will cause the throwout bearing to angle up or down and make the clutch next to impossible to adjust. Bad thing is the only way to find out is to remove the tranny and physically...

    Got Some Goodies

Man, is it ever time to find a new machine shop. The 2.3 head goes from 1975 to 1998 and the major differences where in the type of cam shafts (hydraulic vs. hydraulic roller), the intake port shape (oval vs. D-port, hence different carbed intakes), the exhaust ports (EGR transfer holes vs. the...

Hunting 2.3Ts in Junkyards (what to look for?)

The 74 Pinto had a shorter/longer (I forget but it is off by about 3 inches) driveshaft than the newer 5 speed cars. The mounts for the tranny are completly different as is the rear crossmember. The splines are different on the tailshaft between the two trannys as is the input shaft. The...

    CAI

Chains and solid mounts are against the rules Pro-Hawk. Solid mounts lead to transmission failure in the stock trannys. Been there a few times with cracked bell housings and cracked cases. The 5 spds are real bad for developing cracks around the input shaft bearing area when you use solid mounts.

    CAI

I have made my own CAI for my racer and I am not thrilled with it. Who makes one that will withstand the constant engine twist that comes from up and downshifting for hours during the course of a weekend? And on that subject, who makes good motor mounts? Mine last about 6 race weekends.

is this a good shortblock set-up?????

I agree with 140cilx. .040" is the maximum bore for the 2.3L, after that you pitch it. You may want to look into using one of the newer blocks because they have smaller main bearings. The smaller the bearing, the less drag on the rotating assemble. See if you can find .010, .020, or .030...

    Anyone bought pistons recently?

I have run both SpeedPro and Weisco in my racing 2.3's for 15 years now and I prefer the Weisco's for a few reasons. First they do not grow as much in the bore. SpeedPros need about .004" clearance cold which causes piston slap and leaves some scoring on the walls of the cylinder. Next is the...

    Rev Limiter

I used to race against Marcello when he was road racing in the SCCA. He had sponsorship from SuperChips and he too had the problem with it Rev Limiting. Thanks for the info.

    Rev Limiter

Thanks for the info. I have run the same cam, springs and and lifters with my previous engine that had a Weber and a distribuator and I set the redline at 7000 RPM which was about 250 RPM shy of valve float. Took a lot of time to find the right set of lifters that would work to that RPM. I...

    Rev Limiter

I am racing a factory fuel injected 1991 2.3L Mustang in the SCCA in the ITB class. It has the EEC-IV C1A1 computer installed. I have gone to all of the chip vendors to see if they make or will custom make a chip that eliminated the 6000 RPM rev limiter in the computer. SuperChips was the...
