    Purpose of Steam Holes?

    Had the same problem when installing 65 289 heads on a new roller block, I did not drill the holes. The general consensus I got was it did not matter if you drilled the holes.

    Look at the block behind the intake manifold, if its dished its a 289, if its a flat pad 302 The only year this doesn't hold water is 68 when for used 302 blocks for some 289s....

    That a bummer with your motor.... They had piece of paper separate from the install instructions in my box describing the oil to use etc. Your cam card should have a grind date on it to see how old it is...

    When did you purchase this cam? I bought a comp flat tappet cam back in about September or October and got a instruction sheet stating specifically to use Rotella T and a bottle of GM's E.O.S or an equivalent supplement
