    Boyd Coddington...American Hot Rod

The show seems to be another form of a reality show. Having watched it for five minutes once, I decided that, for me, it is Gilligan's Island with wheels and that I had better things to do like work on the real thing. To each his own.....

    clutch cable setup??

I didn't bother... I took a different approach -- using the Z-bar instead. The Z-bar set up works quite well. If you buy a new Z-bar, though, it is probably imported and not of good quality so it would need to be fortified. I did an automatic to manual conversion and it is fine. And it...

    Timing advance

After getting a dial back timing light and learning how slow my stock timing came in (between 4,500 and 5,000 as I recall), I bought a Crane recurve kit for $25.00. I dinked around and found that for my setup (warmed up 302)/T5/3.40 Tractionlock rear combo), it ran best when timing, 36 degrees...

    Food for Thought

Yup -- take the long view. My '65 convert. has been my DD since 1991 when I bought it as a dead 6 cyl/auto and converted it to a V8/(now) 5 spd/3.40 Tranctionlock rear....and a bunch of other stuff. I made one mod. at a time once it was streetable (that took three weeks) with the end idea in...

    Suspension KIT (I SEARCHED!!)

Moog for steering parts; Eibach for springs (I just put GT rated rears and variable fronts on -- 320/420s I think), Stambar antisway bars -- made in Central Calif. Pricey but made of spring steel and are adjustable for tuning roll; got 'em, love 'em. I agree, I got tired of exercising the...

    Brake Lights Not Working

If you were under the dash for some reason, could you have accidently knocked the plug off of the switch?

    Best motor options?

Pull the heads, gasket match them to get flow up. Have a head shop put bigger valves in or Chevy 350 valves, also to get more flow. Then do an intake; Performer RPM or similar is good. A decent cam, like the Summit 3600 (just like the Performer grind, but less expensive), a Performer 600...

    Plugs/ valve cover gaskets

I use BRF-42s on my 302. Don't know what is called for on the 351. Could be the same. Neoprene valve cvoer gaskets work really well; they are reuseable, don't have to be scraped and don't leak is the cover is flat. To get 'em flat (PO's coulds overtightened 'em and the holes could be down)...

Need Help - Lifters Collapsing on 302

Sounds like they need to be adjusted. Do it running. Hot idle; old (clean) valve covers with the tops cut out. Use neoprene gaskets (they are reusable). Back one at a time off until it taps, then take it slowly down 3/4 turn. Check back here to tell us what happens. The other idea is oil...

    Winterize My 67 Stang

Outside of putting it up on blocks to avoid square tires, I think you have it covered except for just throwing the battery on a charger every month or so overnight; no need to remove it. It you have a nice day and the salt is gone due to a previous day's rain or whatever, and the roads are dry...

    RACED AN OLDER STANG

Uh huh...guess that secretary would love my high 13s '65 convert. Course it ain't stock..turns quick too. That isn't stock either..love messin' with these things!

Looking to buy a 1966 GT350 or nice vert 66 K code, where to find?

The Mustang section in Hemmings Motor News always seems to have a few K's and GT350s. Most book stores or magazine joints have them. Lotta parts listed too....

    T-5 and driveshaft question

You'll need to shorten the stocker by about 1". That's what I had to do. If you want a steel one, then you can have a drive shaft shop put in new u-joints and balance it for a lot less than an aluminum unit. I think Mustang's Plus has aluminum units already shortened if that is what you want...

How much difference do gears REALLY make?

Deeper gears are very noticeable. I went from a T10, 2.80 combo to a T5 (3.35 1st) and a 3.40 Trac lock rear. Huge difference, it launches like a monster when I want it to. Once piece of advice, go Trac. Lock or you'll smoke the right rear tire unless you are very gentle. But deeper gears =...

Car stalls after engine warms up - HELP!!!!

How close is your gas line to the block or head? If the gas gets too hot it will perculate and you'll have a case of vaporlock. It only happens when the line is too, or touching, the heat source. Give it about an inch and you should be good. Running at fast idle could provide a gap that will...

equalizer bar -- difference between hi-po and standard

I have Hipo manifolds on a '68 302 that is in a '65 convert. body and the Z-bar works fine on the stock engine and frame pivots and to both sides of the clutch linkage; at the top where it adjusts and down on the bell housing on the throwout bearing bracket. All the connections are the same as...

2004 mitsubishi eclipse spyder gts vs. 68 mustang coupe

If you have deep gears and his car is not a turbo, then you'll likely get him on torque even though he'll probably get you out of the hole and top speed. If you have stock gearing or he is not normally aspirated, watch out. Also keep in mind that the Mitsu is a cammer so it'll run up faster...

    HP Estimate

The carb. is too big if it is a street car. A 600CFM is perfect in my experience, a 750 id good for the track if your RPM is high all the time. If the heads are stock, you should get around 240 - 250 HP. If the heads are performance heads, you will get more, up to probably around 270. Like...

equalizer bar -- difference between hi-po and standard

The Hipo Z-bar is shaped differently for Hipo exhaust, it's curved, but IIRC the stock is the same. Whichever you have, have it gusseted so it will not bend. Most stuff is imported unless you have an original. If you do, get all of it welded up, hopefully at a Mustang shop since, in my...

Pertronix pointsfree dist. ignition module for 289/302

Had mine now for over 10 years and 140,000 miles on a warmed up 302. Never any problems, but I keep a set of new points and condensor in the little tool box in the trunk just in case. The engine runs smoother and dwell is spot on. I consistently run to 5,500 RPM with no misfire. Also have an...
