    shuts off when downshifting

Mine does this ...exactly as described. Any ideas? (no problem with the idle ...just happens when I push the clutch and bring the RPMs down fast to come to a stop)

    96 stang.

Agreed. In fact, doing the PI intake swap alone along with some steeper gears will put you right up there with stock PI stangs. Yes, npi heads ARE more restrictive than PI heads, but they aren't THE major set-back for the 96-98s; the intake and cams are.

    96 stang.

My '96 has 80,000 miles on it and this is what I'll tell you... -the stock intake manifold is almost guarunteed to crack and will need replaced -the low oil light tends to come on randomly, even when the oil isn't low (I read that this is from a problem with the sensor and/or its location)...

did i really get the flowmaster original 40s?

You can also tell by looking at the mufflers what kind it is - original 2 chambers only have one V-shaped baffle in them (you can see the welds from the outside of the casing) while the delta flows will have like three Vs I believe. Oh and that combo will sound sick

swapping out my 5 piece x pipe?

Idle sounds pretty much the same. Anywhere in the low to mid-rpm band, say from 1.5-3K is noticeably louder and has a different sound (maybe more rasp as some would say, but I like rasp). WOT is obviously louder as well, but the main difference from what I noticed is the mid rpms like I said...

swapping out my 5 piece x pipe?

It definetly will make it louder ...fairly easy to do also, took me about 30 min.

what o/r x pipe to get...?

Yep. A cheap O/R pipe is fine ...but a cheap catted pipe is what you want to avoid.

    Should I dump my exhaust...

Less restriction, but really, only high HP race cars would see true benefits by doing this. For a stang, do it based on sound preference.

    Should I dump my exhaust...

If you want it louder with more drone, yes

    Taming my exhaust note

I've had the cats both in and out of my SLP X-pipe. They definetly quiet the sound down and give you a smoother tone too. However, I prefer the O/R setup.

    Mustang tuning x-pipe?

PA ...they have the visual and the sniffer test ...passes no problem. I've had the SLP X for a year now and hasn't really rusted yet besides some on the flanges ...With the cats in, there is no rasp. With them out, it sounds kinda raspy on the inside, but from the outside of the car it sounds...

    Mustang tuning x-pipe?

I've heard several stories of the cats going bad in that particular brand. And it's all one piece so you would have to replace the entire assembly if that happens. You get what you pay for. I would personally spend the extra $100 and get the SLP catted X they have at mustangtuning - the...
