    Fuel Mileage on 5.0?

I average 18-20mpg mixed driving with my 260k miles 86GT. On my trip to the coast back in September, the car averaged 23mpg--that trip was about 80% hwy and I was driving aggressively for most of the trip down. Car is a 5spd w/3.27 gears.

Gear Noise Upon Deceleration Need Help

I just went through the same thing on my 8.8 rebuild a couple months ago. Backlash was set at .012. I tore the rear end down, reduced pinion depth by .018 and added more shims to the carrier bearings to increase preload. Rear end is whisper quiet now.

I got the setup off ebay last September. Member's seller id was JDMwerks.

Yet another suspension thread-- Harsh riding GT, possible Bullitt spring swap

I'm using the Tokico suspension package, HPK-211. Great ride and great handling, couldn't be happier with the setup. Lowered the front about 1", the rear about 1/2". The kit came with 4 springs, 2 struts and 2 shocks, cost $405 to my door.

    What spring are most comfortable?

I just installed the Tokico HPK 211 kit in my 86. Ride quality is very good, the kit dramatically improved the character of the car.

    3.55 or 3.73 gears?

I just got done installing 3.27's and they feel perfect for the torquey nature of the 5.0. 1st gear is just right, 3rd is great for passing and highway rpms are spot-on. The amount of throttle to maintain 70-75mph is less than it was with the 2.73's, the engine isn't lugging anymore. Big...

    Explorer Intake Value

They want $110+tax, which would be about $118. I think I'll check back in a week or two and offer them $100 out the door and see if they'll take it.

    Explorer Intake Value

I was wondering what these are worth, what price would be considered a good deal? I was browsing through the wrecking yard this morning and found a 98' Explorer upper/lower intake. Emissions aren't an issue in my area, so EGR passages aren't a big concern to me. If the price is right...

    Using E85 as Injector Cleaner

E85 is only slightly more corrosive than gasoline. Methanol on the other hand is extremely corrosive, a lot of people are thinking of Methanol when they hear E85. The results of my experiment are incredible, the car runs sooo much better. I was simply posting my idea to give others...

Does anyone here use J&M products?

I've been running the LCA's for about 6 months and no complaints on the product itself. Cured wheelhop, minimal increase in road noise at low speeds and combined with the HD uppers really makes the rear end feel glued to the road. My only complaints are they raised the rear of the car slightly...

    Using E85 as Injector Cleaner

There are people over at E85performance.net that have run E85 in pre-1980 cars without replacing the fuel tank, fuel lines, etc and haven't had any problems or signs of failure in several years. I converted my quad to run on a blend of 80% E85 this March, no problems to date. Quad runs better...

    Using E85 as Injector Cleaner

Figured I'd share the results of my recent experiment. I got this idea from my FFV Ranger, which I purchased about 18 months ago. Earlier this year I had the idea of running a blend of E85 through my 86 just to see if it would run any different. I've tried every injector cleaner known...

Anyone else not liking short gears with their 5.0??

I'm installing 3.27's in my 86 in the next couple weeks. Can't wait. My Ranger has 3.73's, and while they work great in that application, I couldn't imagine those gears in my Mustang---I think it would feel way too short. Cruising down the hwy at 2500+rpm would get old real quick as well.

    86 gt

This is incorrect. I own a SD 86GT and I've done the cylinder balance test. I used to own a 86 5.0 Notch that was stock as a rock, was able to do the balance test on it as well.
