    65 289 A-code (Cam and Valvetrain) Questions

I went down this path before and as time goes by you will want to change more and more parts. My recommendation (to please you dad) pull the existing stock A-code motor and save it "as is" = do no mods to it. Get a kit motor or rebuild you own using the components you desire. When done...

Finally got some new wheels! Lots of pics (56k no way)

I thought about making one myself the same way, but it someone makes them that would be easier (those 67/68 handles break too easy).

    What next?

Based on what you supplied...I think the next purchase should be rearend gearing. With a 5-speed and somewhere close to a 6500 shift point, I would go beyond the 3.55 and shoot for at least 3.89 to 4.33 (I know these are 9" gearing numbers, but use the equivalent 8.8 gears). Since you have...

Finally got some new wheels! Lots of pics (56k no way)

Nice. :nice: Did you have to massage the rear inner fender wells to make those wheels fit with 5.5" of backspace? Where did you get your aluminum e-brake handle? md

    What next?

I have a 352 stroker (302 + 0.060 over + 3.4 crank). I'm using a C8 Mexican Block. Are you using a Std. 302 or aftermarket block or something else? You need to post more info about you motor (cam specs, compression, etc). and intended driving use to get a better response. A 600 cfs carb...

+1. Must be squared with both oil passage alignment and with position in the block.

    Updated times

I watched the video and recongnized the location! Yesterday was my first trip to the Champion Raceway since I moved up here. I remember your car on Saturday - it sounded nice as you pulled up in the lanes. I did stick around to see you run. It sounded like the motor was missing on that first...

    Axle power rating

My 352 (storked 302) should be pushing 400+ Hp out the rear and I have had no problems with my 9" 28 spline axles with trac loc (I did just recently up graded to 31 Moser axles and a Detroit TrueTrac for future plans at the track). What you will hear is that if you put slicks on those axles...

    73 Axel bearing removal

Even my do-it-yourself video (Bad Shoe Productions) recommends taking the axles to an experience shop to get the bearing off. He does show you how to remove the pressed on bearing "locks" with a big hammer and cold chisel (but I would not try it).

Lost about which rearend to use.

Stick with what ultrastang is saying. It takes speciality tools and skills reading tooth patterns to set up properly. Some may luck out throwing things together and having tollerances close enough, but most times noise and accelerated ware are the outcome. Take your time and do it right the...

Got my 347 running for the Ranchero

Always fun to hear a new motor come to life. Have more motor stats? Running a solid cam?

    9in rearend disassembly question

Yep...most likely the problem. You just need to break this loose. Try shooting some WD-40 around the bearing and let sit. After sitting for a while with the oil, and without a proper slide hammer, use what Hearne suggest on the axles. This will act like a slide hammer and give you more...

    another ride height question

I have Grab-a-Track, 5-leaf, mid-eye springs on a 1966 (I also have a 1/2" lowering blocks installed). tire size is 225x60x15 (25.6" height) I believe the height is 26.0" from the center of the rear fender lip to the ground (car is 300 miles away from me right now). Hope this helps.

    9in rearend disassembly question

Yep the axles have to be pulled out several inches at least, but you might as well pull them completely out because you will end up resting them on the weak axle seals. After, when you pull the third member, be prepared for a lot of weight comming at you (try to support it somehow).

    66 Air Pump Removal

The holes in the head can be plugged with a tapered pipe plug (mine were the allen type). I've done this to a V8 (should be similar for a I6).

Anyone Running Spicer 1350s on their Driveshaft

As in the title - anyone running Spicer 1350 u-joints (or equivalent) on their driveshaft? I've changed my rear end yoke to accept the 1350 size and will soon upgrade the drive shaft, but I can not find a t-5 transmission conversion yoke that uses 1350s (only 1330s). Anyone have experience?

Good luck - I may be wrong, but I think you're reaching high for a very common 8" that belongs on another car.

    U-Joint Fasteners

I brought up the question because there seems to be a lot of used 9" Daytona 1350 yokes "NASCAR yoke" on eBay that will fit my application. Most of them use straps to hold the u-joint on, but I've only used u-bolts. I've been waiting on a good deal, but rarely the u-bolt version...

    U-Joint Fasteners

Changing yokes on my 9" and wanted to know if there's a preference between u-bolts and straps to hold the u-joint on. Car will be a steet/strip ride with drag radials at the track. Yoke (u-bolt or strap version) not purchased yet.
