    Torsional rigidity test: 67 coupe

Has it really been five years since I started this thread? To look at the car, you wouldn't think so. Alas, I haven't had much time to work on it. I've also changed directions a few times, opting to sell the Terminator and replace it with a stock 2007 4.6l. I've made slow progress on the fuel...

IRS on a 1970 Mustang Fastback

I hadn't seen that new Heidts kit yet. I wish they had that kit when I did mine.

IRS on a 1970 Mustang Fastback

Having installed both Heidt's IRS and a 2003 Cobra IRS I have some insight here. The Heidt's kit uses a Ford 9" center section and relatively light and strong. However, it is expensive and requires a great deal of fabrication. This is not a bolt on project. I do love the way the car rides and...

65-66 front fender replacements- Do they fit?

You will never regret going with the original tooling fenders. I wish I had spent the money instead of buying the cheap reproductions.

Ideas on fixing on my fuel gauge, 65 mustang

I don't think I will ever be completely done with any of them but the fastback has been "mostly done" for a couple of years. The 67 coupe takes most of my car time now. I'll get back to the fastback for the finishing touches after I "finish" the 67.

Ideas on fixing on my fuel gauge, 65 mustang

I had the same problem. Thinking the regulator was shorting internally I replaced it with a new one. No change. I never did figure out the root cause. I ended up isolating the regulator with a piece of plastic under it and a stepped plastic washer between it and the screw. I drilled the...

Rack & Pinion- Power vs. Non

The Heidt's IRS in my 65 is good for: 1. Ride - far superior to straight axle. Even better than my 06 GT. 2. The car is stable even when hitting a pot hole while accelerating out of a corner. No jumping sideways. 3. Wow! factor. The bad: 1. Very expensive. 2. Requires many hours of work...

Rack & Pinion- Power vs. Non

I regret the manual rack I installed in my 66. Not so much the effort but the slower ratio. I have a power rack in my 65 and it is just so much more responsive.

I dislike the USA-630 even more now.

I remember Kraco but we used to call them "Crackle". I still think they sounded better than the USA-630.

Global West Suspension Rocker Rail Supports?

I see what you are saying. The panel could be cut to fit inside the recessed area. That would probably have similar results as far a strengthening the chassis. However, I think covering everything allows more mounting points to get every last bit of benefit.

Global West Suspension Rocker Rail Supports?

While I usually make it a point to cover my rear, I'm not sure to what grooves you are referring. I wanted to not only strengthen the chassis but also block openings in case of fuel tank rupture.

Global West Suspension Rocker Rail Supports?

I think you get to a point of diminishing returns with thicker metal. You'll add weight without significantly adding strength. I've seen kits sold with 18ga, although these are sold primarily to prevent fuel from entering the passenger compartment during a collision. Someone suggested...

Global West Suspension Rocker Rail Supports?

Global West Suspension Rocker Rail Supports?

I installed these on my 67 coupe while I was doing a torsional rigidity test. I didn't see any measurable improvement. My car had many other modifications that may have affected their efficacy. I probably wouldn't install them again since they added weight but no sustantial benefit. This is...

    Mustang II Front End Woes...

Whether the car is too low due to drop spindles or weak/short springs isn't the issue. The crossmember will always be at the same position relative to the body. It would be better if the lower control arms were parallel to the ground. This can only be accomplished by installing new springs...

    Temperature sensor with light.

Now here's the funny part. I just installed the original Falcon style instrument panel. It has a temp. gauge. I just assumed it had an idiot light because it has one for oil pressure. Doh!

    Temperature sensor with light.

Interesting. I took a closer look and one terminal is marked H, the other C. Armed with a heat gun and multimeter I tested both sides. The C terminal opened after a short time under the heat gun. The H side closed after a minute or so under the heat gun. If it fits, It will work. Thanks...

That's what I thought. Thanks for the info, I'll have to try again.

    Temperature sensor with light.

I just ordered a temp sensor for my 65 289 with idiot light and received this: Is this the correct part? There was no sensor on this engine and all my other cars have a gauge. Since most sensors simply sink to ground I was surprised to see two terminals. Does the idiot light require a...
