    2012 GT or 03/04 Cobra

Old member here, back with a new car, a 2012 Mustang 5.0. In the past, I had a h/c/i 1995 Mustang GTS, an 03 Cobra and a C6 Corvette. My 03 Cobra had a JLT, 2.8" pulley, Steig Stage IV ported blower, cat-back and tune. With an aggressive tune, car made 480rwhp/460rwtq SAE or 500rwhp/480rwtq...

Agreed, this summer, a nice heads/cam package will find their way into my C6 Vette.

That particular Pinto isn't exactly in pristine condition. It's an example of what it takes to run fast. A pro dragster might very well have $100k in it but we were talking about going fast for cheaper, not about luxury. So I used the Pinto as an example. There used to be a pea green Pinto...

I agree.......and I like the cars in your in sig. I've been drag racing my C6 but need to do what it was meant for.

2007 Shelby GT500 Pics and Specs

I don't think the new C6 Z06 has anything to fear unless the GT500 is modded. Just a guess though since the car is not out yet. I think the GT500 will outperform the regular C6 like the 03/04 Cobra outperformed the regular C5 Vette (in a straight line of course). In addition, I don't think...

Stock Corvette or a modded 03/04 Cobra

Problem is, 100hp advantage isn't a gaurantee win vs even the C5 Z06. Look at some those 1/4 mile times above, bone stock. Granted track and driver have a lot to do with it but the car weighs less than 3100lbs. However, getting more than just 100 rwhp shouldn't be to difficult for an 03/04 Cobra.

Video: Stock C6 Z06 Vs. Modded 03/04 Cobra

I would think it would take at least a ported blower, if not an aftermarket blower, smaller pulley, larger crank pulley and tune to keep up with a stock one. Of course just a shot of nitrous might help as well. Over at Corvetteforum.com, some C6 Z06's are hitting 460rwhp with break in time or...

Stock Corvette or a modded 03/04 Cobra

Here's a list of times compiled on a corvette site. Just goes to show how potent a stock or near stock C5 Z06 is. Don't get me wrong, I love 03/04 Cobra's, had one for two years but got to give credit where credit is due. I remember running at the track with a 2.93 pulley, cat-back, cai and...

Stock Corvette or a modded 03/04 Cobra

I don't think a stock 450rwhp is going to kill 02-04 Z06's. I think a drivers race until higher speeds. Just what I've seen from a few video's and times posted by C5 Z06 types. Now against regular C5's and C6's, a 450rwhp Cobra should take them. If it were me, I would take an 03/04 Cobra...

    GT or GTO?

I believe the dealership where I bought my Vette always honors sticker. Not only their regular C6's were ever marked up and they claim the same for any Z06's they may get. A few folks over at corvetteforums.com have gotten their Z06's at sticker. It can and does happen.

    GT or GTO?

Looks are subjective. I agree the GTO is a bit boring looking but that's what some people like. The price arguement is usually for those who couldn't afford the more expensive car anyway. I could take a 94-95 GT/Cobra (my favorite modern stang), mod it and outperform a new 05 GT or GTO for...

    GT or GTO?

I paid $51K for my Vette, that's with the Z51 option and a few other goodies. Base price is $43.7K for a no options Vette. He might mean the new Z06 and in that case, $62K gets you supercar performance.

    Shelby GT500 vs. '06 Vette Z06?? A decent comparison?

I agree. So is my 364ci LS2, just not quite to the extent of the new Z06. Doesn't mean you can't get good gas mileage and no doubt the new LS7 will do just that when cruising from track to track :nice:

    Shelby GT500 vs. '06 Vette Z06?? A decent comparison?

Not so sure about that. My C6 gets exactly what GM says, 28mpg when in 6th, freeway cruising. I've got a custom tune as well with a bit more aggressive air-fuel. I'm getting around 19-21 in town and 27-29 on the freeway.

    Shelby GT500 vs. '06 Vette Z06?? A decent comparison?

I'm surprised you have more room in the Cobra. I'm 6' and 220lbs and the cockpit was just to small for me. The C6 has so much more room, in my experience of course. Yes, the Cobra's clutch is very stiff. First time I drove my C6, I think I almost put my foot through the floor board. I...

    Shelby GT500 vs. '06 Vette Z06?? A decent comparison?

True. I don't like magazine racing but if that's all you've got. Luckily, having had both an 03 Cobra (modified as well) and a C6 Z51, I've got some credibility in knowing how they perform. It would have taken a lot for the 03 to equal my Vette in the corners. That includes ease of driving...

    Shelby GT500 vs. '06 Vette Z06?? A decent comparison?

Though I hate magazine racing, some mags (C&D inparticular) pegged the Z51 optioned C6 at .98G though not sure of the mph. I had an 03 Cobra and beleive me, adding springs wasn't going to out handle my Z51 C6. It's night and day between the two (though I know you were comparing it to a regular...

    Shelby GT500 vs. '06 Vette Z06?? A decent comparison?

Agreed. Though the GT500 is still in proto-type form, it probably will compare to a base C6 in the curves. Maybe even the Z51 optioned C6, like mine. I think with a 5.4 boosted engine, it will equal if not better it in a straight line. The C6 has some tuning issues (at least mine did) that...

    Shelby GT500 vs. '06 Vette Z06?? A decent comparison?

A new Z06 with 50 miles just put down 442rwhp/411rwtq SAE. Remember, the car weighs in around 3150#'s. LG Motorsports then put their long-tubes and Red Line oil in the car, drove it around a bit for some more break-in and it hit 492rwhp/472rwtq SAE. That's with no tuning.......on a 3150# car...

    How fast are you???

All I know is last weekend, a slightly modded Trans Am on street tires ran almost .2 quicker and 4 mph greater than a slightly modified 05 Mustang GT on drag radials. That Trans Am put down 312rwhp/350rwtq SAE with an intake (air filter), cat-back and a power programmer.
