    throw the a4ld overboard and do the 5 speed swap. I went thru two a4ld's in two years and had enough, I just finished my 5 speed swap for about $400 total and that included a rebuild on the 5 speed. just my .02. mike

    sounds like you need a shim to me mine did the same thing on an auto, first starter did not need a shim but the new one did. ate up the flywheel and had to replace that mike
