    Weird Electrical Gremlins

In case anyone was interested, it was the ignition switch that was faulty. It came apart in four pieces as I was unbolting it.

    Weird Electrical Gremlins

1988 Mustang 5.0 5 speed Ok, it all started with the four lights on the bottom right of the instrument cluster (low fuel, check oil, coolant and brake fluid) starting to flash on and off all at the same time. This is intermittent but usually happens 3-4 times during a 15 mile drive. The...

Alternator quits charging after ~2400 RPM

I load tested the alternator myself at about 2000 rpm and its putting out 110 amps. Above 2400, it drops to 0. Does anyone have an opinion on this?

Alternator quits charging after ~2400 RPM

Heres the scoop: As I was merging on to the freeway, I mashed the throttle. The car accelerated for about a half a second, then the engine hesitated for about a second, then started accelerating again. After that, the battery light was on and the voltmeter was dropping. So I thought that...

    Injector change questions

The engine most likely wouldn't even start. There would be far too much air coming in. You might get some small flames to shoot out the intake, though.

    My Delta Current Control Question

A fusible link is a wire that is smaller in size (larger gauge) then the rest of the circuit and if excessive current flows through that circuit, that piece of wire will burn up instead of the controller or somewhere else along the power supply. It is not meant to be spliced to a fuse. The...

    ACT sensor and Speed Density

The ACT will just send back a slightly colder signal to the PCM. I wouldn't anticipate any problems by doing so.

Another idle problem question with a twist..

I had the exact same problem as you after my Mass air conversion. I raised the idle speed up a bit (to about 850-900 RPM) and advanced the timing a bit. After that, it ran like a champ. EDIT: There were no faults stored in my case.

    Professional Mechanics

I think it all depends on where you work at. I work for a BMW dealer and there is a lot more potential (in general) to make money there then there is at an independant shop or at other dealers (ie. Ford, Honda). I know there are guys at those shops that make six figures but they have also been...

    Melted Mark VIII fan

A few days ago, the mark viii fan in my 5.0 quit working. I found that the ground terminal on the connector and on the fan motor itself had melted. I use a DCC controller, the wiring and splices are all fine. Since I assume this is not a common problem, I'm guessing that the fan windings...

$$$$$ in tow fees, or fix this thing?

I don't mean to be a jerk, but instead of guessing where the buzz is coming from, use your ear and find the buzz. Its not that hard to locate a repeatable, loud buzz.

    setting up pinion bearing preload

I doubt if you wanna spend the cash, but all the major tool companies (Snap-on, Mac, Matco) sell torque wrenches that go down super low. Into in the in/oz range.

    What wrong with this.. (pics)mustang

TTY bolts are designed to stretch. This is what happens when the they are angle torqued. And the head will not lift during a compression test.

    MAF Conversion/Idling issues

The BAP sensor functions the same as a MAP sensor. The only difference is the BAP is reading atmospheric pressure and the MAP reads manifold vaccum. So when doing a MAF conversion, the vacuum line leading to the MAP is disconnected from the sensor and plugged. This is what I did. Also, I...

Looking at a Griffin radiator... any imput would help

The Griffin does have a small lip, but I was able to bolt my fan on using 4 6mm bolts on top and 4 on the bottom. The hose outlets are bit bigger, but stock hoses work fine, it just takes a little WD40 to get them on. The only downside is no drain. But you can just pop the bottom hose off...

    MAF Conversion/Idling issues

Forgot to mention that there were no faults stored.

    What wrong with this.. (pics)mustang

Technically, TTY bolts are one time use only, but they will still provide equal clamping force the second or third time that their used. Its the shear /tensile stength that is reduced. What I'm saying is, reusing TTY bolts will not reduce compression #'s.

    What wrong with this.. (pics)mustang

There is no real pattern to the compression #'s on your motor. I would bet that the valves are being held open . This could be caused by the rockers being adjusted too tightly.

    Transmission questions

Is the car hard to put into gear with the engine off? If so, then the trans synchros may be worn or there may be a bent shift fork. If it is easier to put into gear with the engine off, then there may be an issue with the disengaging of the clutch (ie. worn clutch, misadjusted cable). But...

    MAF Conversion/Idling issues

A week ago, I did a MAF conversion on my stock motored 88. Got the PCM, harness and MAF out of an 89LX. I realize there is some adaptation time, but after a week it still runs worse then it did with my SD computer. When cold it barely idles (even stalling at times) and when warm it will idle...
