Considering 1985 GT TBI Have Questions

oh.. and nitrous is NOT an option with the CFI nobody makes a kit for it, and a buddy called NOS and they wanted $600 for a custom plate but my '90 vert went from 15.10 to 13.60 on a street radial and 3.73 gears. just headers, h-pipe, and catback. that was on a zex 100 shot dry...

Considering 1985 GT TBI Have Questions

3 main reasons it's not a rocket when it should be decently fast out of the box 1) cfi cars are rated at a measely 165 hp as opposed to the 210 of the carb'd version 2) cfi cars are all AOD's and the aod is horribly geared, with poor shift points and about half the stall speed it needs to run...

    rear end gearing

theres a decent amount of them. if the car was on the lot cuz the dealer ordered it theres a good chance it has 3.27 i got my '90 GT new and it had it cuz it was on the lot. but i think my 7-up car only had 2.73 , it was swapped to 3.73 b4 i got it , but again, most of those were ordered...

looking to change heads and cam, do i need to convert to MAF?

it's super basic. you swap out everything for the mass air stuff. computer , air tube, meter etc.

    rear end gearing

your wrong. but partially right. right due to the fact aod cars had the availability of 3.27's but either can have 2.73 and i have never seen a 3.08 aod, i believe they were available, but for the same price you could get 3.27 fyi 3.08 was the "performance" gear offered for a t5 fox lol

    GT40 guidance please...

i hear ya... but i disagree. i think when performance is more than 100 over stock you will see a diff fo sho. just like i disagree with peeps who say they did an intake on a 100% stock car and gained 20hp but thats also my opinion with no data to back it up so maybe im wrong

    rear end gearing

check the door tag, under "ax" m=2.73 z=3.08 e=3.27 thats only assuming it is stock. if it isnt... jack it up and count rotations

    GT40 guidance please...

well my port guy is who informed me of the different sizes. and all he said is that 1 is good and 1 is not good. so when i asked tom moss here is his reply... copied from the thread "The GT40 family of intakes have the part number that ends in "-BA" or "-AA". The AA lowers have a little more...

    GT40 guidance please...

id stay away from the explorer intake, they have tiny ports compared to cobra and real gt40. you want the gt40 lower to end in "AA" near the dizzy cutout, thats the good lower iron 40's usually sell for $300 complete but no rockers, get a set of 1.7 cobras they go for about $100-$150...

    What size slicks??

i would run a 26 X 10 1/2" et street , or et street radial. no need for wider... full slick you only need a 26 X 8 but i'd use a 26 X 10 for the look yes you need to drill the wheel for the tubes, so once you tube... you forever tube. but they last a long time neways. DONT use the "economy"...

    Auto Transmission woes - '92 5.0 Vert

yes it is actually called an AOD, the 4r70w and AODE were later auto trannies anyways, i went through 3 aod's on my first 5.0 and i bought the car brand new. it was a 1990 GT i say NO, it a waste to rebuild it. my opinion is to do a t5 swap at this point, it is more fun, and the t5 will...
