03 Cobra vs. Mach 1

My insurance went down $226 a year with the Cobra than it was with the 2002 GT

Did you have points drop off your license or attain 10 years of driving experience in between the time you first got the GT insurance and the time you got the Cobra insurance?

Anyone interested, go to Google and search for AIS. Auto Insurance Specialists...get on their website and enter all your info. Do comparative quotes for Cobras & GT's....I was shocked, and insurance costs are the reasons I just bought an 03 GT vs. the Cobra which is what I really wanted. The insurance quotes (from multiple sources) were ridiculous.

Only question I want to ask his how much money you have for mods. Probably not much since you are going straight to college so I suggest a car thats already done. Get the cobra gears and dr's and your done. Plus with just a hypertech added to her your almost adding 25hp give or take 5. Thats a lot of extra power for just a hypertech add, it does not take much not that you need to for the cobra to be quicker. Don't get me wrong a mach 1 is a nice stang but to each his own. And as far as insurances go either way you will pay your 18 with a high price muscle car ask your parents if they can take you on their insurance policy you will save a lot of money plus your a student and some insurance companies might give discounts towards that.

I was all set to buy a cobra (test drove several of them) until I saw and drove the mach. With x-plan and rebates on both, the mach was $8000 cheaper than the cobra plus IMHO the mach is a better looking car. I have raced a few cobra's on the street and I have never lost in short runs 0-100 and I don't consider myself a great driver.
Also around here there are very few mach's but a ton of cobra's.

look at first gear ratios...

mach-1 3.38
Cobra 2.67

the T-56 is NOT a drag race transmission, that is why a mach will get an initial jump on the cobra.(aside from axles of course) However as stated before, the cobra will start to walk the mach before the 1/8th and end up winning by a car length or two.

I like both a lot.

Cobra

Pros:
-built/boosted factory V8
-6 spd
-simple, cheap, aftermarket power potential

Cons:
-Weight
-Initial Price
-Styling not as aggressive as some would like

Mach

Pros:
-N/A 4v V8, what GT should have been the last couple of years
-Nimble handling for daily driving
-Heritage Syling/relative exclusivity

Cons:
-Not a boost happy motor
-Tires are a joke
-No respect from any year cobra owners :p

I don't think you understand, past history doesnt' mean Jack. Fact is timing is everything and you should know it. My 03 brought in late June you couldn't get them to come off 1k MSRP but 2 months latter they were 21k to 22k.

If you were half the stud you are in your mind we would be coming to you but that hasn't happened has it. Fact is I used the internet to buy the 04 and Salina (Long McCather) was the cheapest in May of 04. I'd say post for us dumb A** where we can go to pick up our Cobra's since their everywhere for that....NOT. I think we should post a poll and see how many non Ford people can get a Cobra for 28k....Any bets?
i dont slap the dick out of your mouth when you are deep throating, so i dont think buying and selling cars is what you should be educating me about. Remember, the three recent deals you call upon for your comments is what i do in a weekend of work. In a good week, i can bet i do more car transactions than you have done in your whole life.

That a whole lot to say nothing :rlaugh: All I ask for is some proof not some BS your speading on the web. I'm sure many here would like to get a Corba for 28k and like you said the Mach's 6k below that (22k for an 04 I don't think so) It was possiable in 03 though. :spot:

im just f'n around with you, but if you are paying more than 28k for an 04 cobra in the current market place, you are just not trying to get a good deal. Rebates are 4k right now(in my region), and if your market is a lot less than that, then you can buy a plane ticket anywhere in the us for 200 bucks and drive a cobra home no problem(and save yourself all of this money you say that i am off in pricing:rolleyes:). my info isnt bs, I have experience in the auto industry like i said, you however have 3 recent purchases to draw upon. So your hearsay is the actual bs to my first hand knowledge. My good friend is still at ford and we speak everyday, he keeps trying to put me in the cobra and i have seen the numbers time and time again.

I dont get special pricing, and at best xplan saves people from paying the dealer fee and requires the dealer to give the customer all of the rebates instead of scooping them for profit. wtf do i need to prove? that you are a fuggin idiot that thinks he knows it all?

Well it seems you need to get to the track more the MACH will always launch much better than a Cobra and the last half of the 1/8 will be gaining. IRS sucks in drag racing but great for round track racing.

BTW post a copy of that quote, I didn't fall of the turnipe truck yesterday, Ford doesn't give you JACK for a trade in...........Sorry a bunch of internet BS until you post the quote. As you can see a brought a few Mustang in the last 3 years. If that's ture they are either not selling any Cobras or you can get the Mach for 22k.

Yeh well I BROUGHT my GT back in 01 and I think it can kick your Mach's @$$. Dude, calm down...don't take things so personal. Just because someone likes the Cobra better doesn't mean you can't have your opinion. :nice:

Simple fact is for modding potential the Cobra is going to win out...period. You already have a forged engine with a S/C, and a stout transmission. Slap a Kenne Bell on there and you are knocking on the 700rwhp door. You simply cannot get that with a Mach with stock internals. The only weak link I see for the Cobra is the retrofit IRS.

The Mach is without a doubt a killer car, and if it would've been out when I was in the market, that's the car I would've bought. It runs in the low 13's in stock form, has nice seats, solid rear axle with 3:55's, and killer looks. The modding potential for the Mach is good, but not as good as the Cobra due to the 3650 tranny, and relatively weak internals.

So basically it all depends on what your budget allows for and what you are looking for in a car. Go test drive them, and decide for yourself which one fits you better.

P.S. On the money thing....I know for a fact that I could walk into my local dealer this afternoon and drive home in an 04 Cobra for $28,000 and they are the only SVT dealer in this state.

as far as the tranny is concerned there are plent of drag racers still using the TR-3650 w/out issues. Jeff Schmell who races in the NMRA Factory Stock class has made literally 100's of passes w/out issue in his transmission...BTW he runs in the 11's N/A w/out ever pulling the intake or heads off...just bolt ons...

when it comes to cobras racing with a T-56...unless they have a viperspec(2.97) that 1st gear ratio is what kills them, that is why they benefit from taller gears.

as far as the weak interanls are concerened...that is true...but when comparing mach to cobra you have to remember the cobra is so easy to modup because of it's factory blower and forged internals.

Spend $6000 in mods on the mach and you can have a high 11 second car...spend that much on an '03/'04 cobra and you should have a 10second car...(esp. those with dual poweradders)

it's really apples to oranges.
