Roush 05+ Saleen Problems, owners must see!

I own a 2006 Saleen Extreme 550, which has a little different suspension than the N/A and S/C saleen and what not, plus a 12 lb. tune and maxgrip differential...but does anyone else have problems like i am on any of their S/C 05+ cars??

I bought the car brand new off a lot here in detroit. When i inspected the car, i noticed some small imperfections which i told the dealer to fix, some of which i know are common problems with saleens, (like the steering wheel badge peeling off). When i drove the car, everytime i shifted the boot would come off, so they ordered me a new shifter handle which is shorter (installed on the 07's) all fixed and no problems.

I showed the car to some saleen owner friends which have not seen a supercharged 05+ yet and they said the roots blower sounds like its not getting oil cause it makes a lound and obnoxious noise like the twin screws are just touching eachother (only when the hood is up and youre listening). Then the car started getting hard to go into gear, until i couldnt get it into gear anymore and had to tow it to the dealership on a flatbed. They told me saleen spec'd them to pull the trans, re-torq the clutch plate bolts, and bleed the clutch. They told me the supercharger sounded normal but the belt was shreded and ready to snap. They said the belt was slipping and the tensioner pulley was bad, so they replaced it. (mind you this was at about 350 miles and the car currently has under 800).

That was all fixed and good. One thing i didnt tell the dealer was the humming i hear in the rearend, which when i test drove the car before i bought it, the guy i know from Saleen told me its the rearend and its normal.

Not that i have a few more miles on the car, i had a friend of mine that owns a well-respected mustang tuning shop around town look at it becuase he hasnt seen an extreme in person yet. He drove the car and said the humming noise is not good and sounds like theres a ring and pinion problem. He also pointed out that when you give it throttle (not necessarily matting it) the right rear end squats considerably and the car pulls left, quite hard sometimes. It feels like the axel is twisting like there is no lower control arm bushing on the righthand side, causing the back of the car to go right and the front of the car to go left, like it torques hard. He told me it seems like there is a broken or bent control arm. I got on it ONCE out of the whole w/ the 4:10's in first gear and now the humming noise is getting louder and torques worse, like obnoxious loud, and the supercharger still sounds nasty. The guy from saleen told me the rearend is normal because all the extremes do it due to the MAX GRIP posi. I talked to my buddy francis with a 2000 WS6 fully built with a 9" race rear end and runs high 8's, and he said his rear end makes some noise, but it shouldnt be like that.

Now that the problems are getting worse, my radiator temp guage sometimes reads upwards of 125 on a cold day and the supercharger is making very unstable boost. It has a stock tune of 12 lbs and now only will make 10.5-11 and spikes all over the place. The guage looks like a bass light....?

The guy from saleen told me that he doesnt want a dealer looking at it, he wants SSV looking at it, so hes going to meet me up there and have it tested, but im concerned their going to say everything is OK, and the car will just keep having problems.

My next question to him will be what am i going to do in 8 months when my 1 year powertrain warrenty is up?

Can any of you verify ANY of my listed problems? it seems like the car is a lemon or something, just problem after problem and i dont even have 1000 miles on the car yet. Would any of you say that since the car is built by hand, minor querkes have to be worked out in the first year?

advice/thoughts?

I'd be pissed. I'd pay a good performance shop to go over the car. Then let the ssv guy take a look at it. This way you have a good idea if he's bs'ing you. You can always keep pressing for them to fix things, they may not want to do it, but throwing the words "lemon law" around usually helps too, if they don't fix things.

Radiator temp should always be over 125, 125 isn't even enough to create heat.

As far as a year goes, that's when you'll really be screwed.
Trade it in for a z06.

Definately have a good shop go over the car completely.

I'm taking my 06 sc in one day soon for this myself.

I have a hum/squeal in the rear when I turn sharp at low speed. It started shortly after I upgraded to 3.73 gears and the same rear setup of the E cars.

Ha ha ha.

You guys crack me up.

Sorry Extreme to hear about your problems. All of the areas you are having issue with are areas Saleen "altered" the car.
The MaxGrip rear end does make a lot of noise. The problem is that most of the guys at Saleen should not be allowed to install R&P let alone a maxgrip.
The blower will be completely silent for about 350 miles or so and then with the hood up sound almost a little "grindy" If you want perfection, buy a Kenne Bell.

Remember,

most of the assembly line workers should not even be Techs. Most of the guys at Saleen go right from taping boxes and sweeping floors to supercharger installs and most likely your MaxGrip, LCA's and NON adjustable pan hard.

Sorry about your probs. I would make Saleen SSV document ALL of your problems and get the complaints in writing like a work order when you drop you car off at the dealer. That way if your rear end grenades at 13 months and your head gaskets go you can come back to them and prove it was a legitimate problem early on.

Well what kind of performance shop do you guys think? i took it to Alternative which is a performance shop that specializes in Mustangs and he is the one that told me there is something wrong with the car by driving it. He has them on the dyno and installing blowers everyday.

Squeeling at low speeds in sharp turns is completely normal if you have the max grip differential. It acts like a limited slip detroit locker so when the car is spinning, the wheels are turning at different speeds but the axels want to turn the same speed.

My car makes REAL NASTY noises at higher speeds like i wore the brake pads down completely and i have my brakes on all the time. it hums, and vibrates the interior of the car. its to the point where i couldnt talk on a cell phone cause the noise is obnoxious. its not TOO loud, but sounds like the cars about to break and makes me nervous.

Sorry to hear about your problems.

I would drive the hell out of the car and see if you can get it to break during the warranty period. It is better to find all of the weak links now instead of later.

I'm running the Maxgrip and no squealing issues here. I did have a lot of noise from the rear of the car and had it checked out and the gears were shredded. Stepped up to 3.73s then and no issues since.

Sorry Extreme550.

You definitley have some real issues with your car. LIke I said, just take it to SSV and make them document your compliants that you are having. Hopefully they will fix the probs you are having and admit to a few others they find in the process.

Don't take the ZO6 thing seriously. Joe and I like talking about that Chevy here. We pretty much just wait around here for guys to show up and tell everyone in the forum how bad ass their Mustang is and they can smoke a ZO6. Then we let them have it. :)

do you own one? ... no problem Marcus.... its all fun and games.

Z06's are not invincible though ;) just so you know. I think my buddies twin turbo 743 RWHP GT will have no problem feeding it to the dogs haha.

Anyway, i saw an article in a magazine the other day. they took a stock GT500 which made 424 RWHP on a dyno and put a Kenne Bell on it and made 743 RWHP (i think that was the numbers...if not ..close)

SICK ...but heavy and the rest of the car breaks.

Apples and oranges to compare an unwarrantied modified car to a stock car that has a warranty.
Besides, the zo6 would probably still beat it on street tires on the road track and drag strip.
It's very very hard to get any mustang into the 11's on stardard radial tires, regardless of power.
